Tips to eat slower?

Recommended Posts

I've always been a fast eater I've slowed down a little bit since having the sleeve however I feel like I'm still eating too fast after reading some posts on here. I use small baby spoons but it does not slow me down at the rate I think I should be eating.

For example I can eat yogurt or a pudding cup in about five minutes.

Any tips to help me slow down?

I have the same problem! I tried not sitting down I'd take a bite and walk around the house go back take another bite and walk etc. I tried sitting and putting my spoon down, and I've tried making myself wait between bites by watching the clock. Unfortunately nothing has helped

6 months out and I still struggle with this even though I have gotten a lot better. I usually watch tv or read or talk while I am eating and put the fork down after every bite. I still eat too fast sometimes though. I think you are doing the right things. It just takes time and some getting used to. Good luck.

I used to do a lot of online gaming - Bloons Tower Defense. I'd use that game to slow my eating speed. I'd take a bit, play one round, take anther bite, play a round, rinse, repeat. I'd get so into trying to beat the game that my eating slowed to a crawl. B)

There is a free app for your phone that is called "Eat Slower". It is a pretty good app and it helps you to slow down and put your utensil down between each bite. My husband if a big and fast eater and over the years .... I joined right in with him. It has been real hard for me to slow down. You eat too fast or too much and your new tummy will let you know and it is not nice about it....LOL

Don't feel like you're alone. I'm 4 moths out and it has ALWAYS been an issue for me. I used the "Eat Slower" app at first, and it did work for a while, but now I'm back to eating fairly fast and it really isn't an issue for me. Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
