Can't take enough fluids :(

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I had my sleeve done on Friday Dec. 19

I am really struggling to drink :( part of it I don't like the shake may be?I am still working on my first shake for the past 3 hours and it's not even half done yet, and I am not drinking Water in between so that I get most of the shake in. I am allowed creamy Soups please give me some ideas. I thought of boiling a potato and add lots of chicken broth. I know I am not allowed any starches but I need ideas please and thanks. How do I keep getting fluids in my body??

Besides Protein Shakes (which I still have everyday). I diluted, strained and added unflavored Protein Powder to every broth and cream Soup I could find.... chicken, hot and sour, wonton, cream of asparagus, cream of shrimp, broccoli cheese, French onion, lobster bisque, butternut squash, potato leek, Tomato, tortilla soup, etc. I couldn't tolerate plain Water or artificial sweeteners for 4 months, so I also drank milk, Decaf herbal tea, diluted fruit juice, diluted pedialyte, and diluted Vitamin water. I had to start sipping when I woke up in the morning and didn't stop until I went to bed. It was a PIA, but I got 64oz in starting day 5. (Except between weeks 6-10 when I was on a medication that made me extremely nauseous and ended up needing IV fluids 3 times...you don't want to go there!). Keep trying different things and Make getting fluids in your full time job.

I think it is probably more important that you get your fluids in than that you get your Protein in, I would definitely get some Water or something else in there while you are working on the protein because if you get dehydrated then it will make things even more difficult for you. I totally feel you on the shakes though. It has been getting harder the last couple of days for me to get them in because its just so sweet. Best of luck to you! Hang in there :)

Concentrate on the Water or other fluids first. It is way more important not to get dehydrated than it is to get Protein. I used a medicine cup my first few days at home and that made all the difference. I drank each ounce slowly, I found I could drink up to 4 ounces an hour that way which was great. You can also use sugar free Jello or greek yogurt which has more protein. Goodluck.

Afternoon.

I had my sleeve done on 11/21. For the first two weeks it was nothing but liquids. No Soup, only broth. I was unable to do the Protein drinks, so I drank more liquids hourly. I did not harm myself by not having the Protein.

I could not wait for my first 2-week post-op visit. I thought I would be able to have an egg. I was wrong, I was only allowed things like very thin oatmeal or Cream of Wheat. I am still only allowed mushy foods and I have 2 tsp every 2 hours.

contrats...........and we are here for each other if you have any other questions.

My 1st 10 days post-op, I wasn't eating or drinking anything to speak of. I just couldn't tolerate food or drink. I focused on staying hydrated and sip, sip, sipped as much as I could. I took the doc's recommended daily intake of food and Water as a goal to strive for, but didn't expect to reach it in the first week. As long as I felt okay and kept drinking, I wasn't worried.

Crystal Light lemonade and sugar free popsicles were the only thing I ate/drank that 1st week. 2nd week, I found Cream of Mushroom Soup was tolerable, but only 1/2 tablespoon full every 1/2 hour or so. It was weeks before I was getting in all the advised levels of protein/water.

Do the best you can, and call your doc if you don't feel right.

Kindle gave some good suggestions. As for where to buy unflavored Protein there are brands such as Prosource, GENEPRO and Isopure. Prosource and GENEPRO are available online only as afar as I know, but Isopure can be purchased at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. All 3 can be mixed with cold or hot beverages.

Do not get discouraged if you don't like the first Protein Drink you buy or even the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. I went through several before I found Protein I liked that didn't trigger my allergies.

Water is important, but as long as you get in some type of fluids, you won't get dehydrated. However you have to get in something. Don't suffer with a beverage you can't stand.

I used Un jury unflavored Protein and you can mix it in anything up to 140 degrees. That was warm enough for me. supposedly GENEPRO can be mixed with anything at any temperature. Never tried it. And I rarely cook, much less make Soup, so they all came from a can, box or whatever the daily specials were at the local deli or soup/salad bar at the whole food store.

First week I had grape and Apple juice diluted with 50% Water that was really helpful.

Hi, i was sleeved on Dec 22nd. I seem to be doing ok except for intermitent spasms. I am preferring Decaf unsweetened iced tea with splenda instead of Water or other fluids, is that ok?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
