Starting my pre-op stuff

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a question, how much did you all lose during Preop? just wondering... i am asked to lose 10lbs.. but i wonder if it is a bad thing to lose more? This may be a silly question.

Also what did you all do to prepare for the surgery? is there anything you wished you did but didn't?

Thank you!

I was told by my Doctor that he should have no problem doing the surgery, but he still wants me to do the 2 week pre-op. I assume so that I get used to a liquid diet. I can live with that. I'm in my 3rd day of the pre-op, so far just a mild headache and 3 more pounds lost. I can also eat as many green veggies as I want. I am using powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, nectar and Isopure to mix up the Protein shake routine to help.

My doctor wants me to lose 20 lbs. Starting January 3, I have to drink Boost Glucose Control shakes 4 times a day until my surgery on January 27.

I did a 14 day pre op diet and lost 12lbs. Surgery went great and the surgeon said my liver had shrunk and was easy to operate around.

To prepare I made sure I had a good understanding of my pre op and post op diet. Had the foods I needed on hand and understood the procedure and after care well.

Nurses were so impressed they sent me home less than 48 hours after surgery and said I was a simple discharge cause I knew what to do and not do.

Also I made sure my house was spotless and anything I might need was at waist level to avoid straining or bending.

Good luck! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
