JackieBrown 183 Posted December 23, 2014 Lots of people just give things that they would like to get. So, I just remember that the next year and send them something similar to what they sent me, which tends to go over big. Another idea for those good food gifts is to drop it by the nurse's station where you had your operation, if it's not too far away, and tell them thanks. As a nurse friend told me, "Nurses love to eat!" and they're usually to busy to go get something.
amponder 396 Posted December 24, 2014 If there is one time people think it's okay to overeat it's the holidays, one girl where I go to get my surgery was actually getting negative comments because she was going to "miss" thanksgiving. Maybe you should pack up something you know your FIL shouldn't have and send it to him.
tomi71 581 Posted December 24, 2014 Just received a package from my father-in-law for Christmas. The outside of the box said Termini Bros. on it but my family is notorious for reusing boxes and I didn't know what Termini Bros. was anyway so I went ahead and opened it. Turns out, Termini Bros. is a pastry company out of Philadelphia, PA where my FIL lives and he sent us a big ol' tin of something sweet and, I'm sure, delicious. I just had my sleeve surgery a week ago today. Now, granted, I haven't spoken directly to my FIL about the surgery, but I did make an announcement about in on Facebook (I'm being wide open with this, I don't care who knows) and we are friends on Facebook and I'm almost positive my husband spoke to him about it as well. Beyond that, my husband is also large and has Type 2 Diabetes. He also has Atrial Fibrillation and during a previous episode where he was in the hospital because he was in AFib for over 24 hours and wasn't able to convert back to normal rhythm on his own, his dad called and I answered the phone and the first words out of the man's mouth were, "He needs to lose weight," not, "How is he?" Honestly, I'm not mad at the guy, I think it's more funny than anything. He's just in his own little world sometimes. My husband said he'll give the tin to the women in our apartment complex leasing office. @@wicked_ash Guess who was on news this morning? Termini Bros. The line was out the door and every other word was "cannolis!" LOL I could SMELL the cannoli. .......Didn't want even a tiny bite. Isn't that a great feeling? Happy Holidays & may everyone's 2015 be even better!
Wendyfm 494 Posted December 26, 2014 My parents sent me chocolates for Christmas. I admit that since today is Christmas I'm declaring it a cheat day. I've had several and a small piece of pumpkin ice. Tomorrow back to business..
Tkrk0325 15 Posted January 2, 2015 This story made me giggle. I had something similar happen...my mother in law had surgery and I took care of her for 3 weeks after. Trust me...I had to bath her, help her in the bathroom...etc...she needed a lot of help. She's not my favorite person, but I knew helping her was what I wanted to do. During this time I had started on my liquid pre op diet and she knew it. At the end of the 3 weeks (and right before my surgery) she went back to her own home. She was so excited to "present" our family with a gift card for letting her stay with us. Did I mention I did all the dirty work? Well, the gift card was to Culvers. Wow. Just wow....I'll buy some coffee? ?? The worst part is that she demanded we use it with her. Sooo, my mother in law, husband, and kids enjoyed their Culvers while I enjoyed my Crystal Light. Seriously? I bathed her! Ugh. When I didn't eat anything from the gift card outing, she said, "Oh yeah...I forgot you can't eat. Sorry". Did I mention I bathed her? Some people will NEVER get it. Lol.
