Ok, so I was just banded on Wednesday (May 16). I'm finally starting to feel like something OTHER than someone who's just had surgery.

I am eating (full liquids) regularly. My question is... Right now, feeling 'full' to me is a tightness in my chest.. well, my esophagus. Does this eventually change to a more natural feeling of fullness.. does it ever feel like you are full in your tummy?? Or will it always be a discomfort a little higher up??

Does that make sense??

You shouldn't be worried about this now. During the liquid phase you'll never have the "full" feeling, the liquid is slowly passing thru the band... there not enough substance to make you feel full.

Eventually when you get to mushies, and then to solids.. you'll want to make sure you're taking TINY bites, chewing completely, waiting 30-45 seconds before the next bite.

At first you can't help but sense the feeling in your throat. But that's NOT the area you want to concentrate on, it's a slow process and you're not expected to have it figured out by the 1st week.

Right now, try to concentrate on getting in your Protein and Water. Since the band is installed with no fill, you need to use this time to heal. The tightnees in your throat/chest will eventually go away.

All the best,

Karla

Thanks, Karla. I'm not 'worried' about it. I was just curious. I am on full liquids, which includes things like yogurts.. which DO fill me up. I guess what I was asking.. (and I think you answered it)... was if, (obviously once everything is settled and healed) the 'fullness' you feel resembled a natural 'fullness' which would be in the belly.

Thank you for your help.

The full feeling that I get is just as you described, higher in the chest as opposed to the stomach. And it's not really a full as it is more of a tightness. I try to eat now until I'm not hungry, instead of full. Now when I get that tightness I feel like maybe I ate one bite too many!

I've been banded for about nine months and my fullness feeling is felt in the middle of my chest.

The feeling is completely different from the feeling of fullness I used to get from overeating. I've even had one occasion where I went to long without eating and my stomach was still growling even though I felt the "band fullness" in my chest....it was quite odd, but happened because I ate too fast.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
