Allergic to band?

Recommended Posts

It has been almost two years since I was banded and I have developed a weird skin "thing." It bagan on my hands, and has now started to appear at different spots on my entire body. The spots start out looking like blisters that itch. Then they dry up and leave small scars. Could this be an allergy to one of the components of the band? If anyone has any ideas PLEASE let me know. I'm at a loss. Thanks

Terri

my gf (not banded) had a similar thing--on her it's an immune disorder--she saw a dermatologist and got a steroid cream to help with the breakout of itchy, painful bumps--they started on her hands--but then were on other parts of her body. it comes and goes--i can't quite remember the name of it--but i can ask her today and post back.

in any case==i think you need to see a dermatologist. i don't think this has anything to do with the band--certainly not 2 yrs after the surgery.

best wishes,

girlinnyc

p.s. your weight loss is great! congratulations!

Sometimes when my eczema gets really bad it looks like that, but that's rare. The description you gave sounds A LOT like impetigo, but that's more common in kids so I don't know ;) . I agree with girlinnyc- best to check with your dermatologist.

It's also poison ivy season.. I'm highly allergic, but some reason it always starts in my hands.. so I go to the doctor and get a shot before it can spread too much. How long have you had it?

Sounds like eczema. My husband gets it and it always starts on his hands too. Very itchy little blisters, that dry up. You may want to consider some research on it.

serum sickness--is the name of the immune disorder---i called her yesterday.

anyway---go to a dermatologist!! find out what's going on! when she had a really big, initial breakout--she also had shots of steroid medication to bring it under control. this was all handled by the dermatologist.

p.s.--always see BOARD CERTIFIED drs--so, if you're just looking for a dermatologist for the first time--check the dr's credentials. you can also look on the ama website (american medical association) and use their "doctor finder"--which is helpful in getting some background info on the dr you are considering.

let us know what happened!

best regards,

girlinnyc

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
