Oh My I am Miserable!

Recommended Posts

I am on day 7 & I am miserable & in pain! My surgery ended up being full blown surgery! I went in thinking I was going to have laparoscopic surgery & he found I had a hernia & my stomach was twisted...so I am cut stern to stem. & to make things worse everytime I try to drink Protein Drinks they make me nauseated. I have been sipping on Sobe Lifewaters & tea, but 2 ounces every 15 mins cannot quench my thirst! & they have scared me to death about drinking more than that! I have tried EAS, Atkins, Isopure! I feel like I am dying of thirst, do I ever get to drink normal again?

You'll gradually be able to drink more Water. I actually had a bout of dehydration about a week past surgery, but slowly I was able to intake more water. Some days I still feel like I'm not drinking enough but as long as the dehydration symptoms don't come back, I'm getting enough in. Just keep trying ... sip, sip, sip all day.

I also ate sugar free popsicles to get in more fluids, try that too.

I felt this way about drinking as well. I was putting my G2 in the microwave and warming it because warm fluids went down better at first. Then one morning I took a sip and exclaimed "I can take normal sips now!!" I was sooooo happy and my husband laughed. It's still work to get in all the fluids but even now when I'm tired of Water I have a hot tea. It soothes nausea and the warmth doesn't cause those belly spasms. Keep your chin up, it's up and up from here!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
