Has anyone been denied because of being considered a "passive smoker"? I have never smoked in my life, but my husband smokes. (I have been trying to get him to quit for years). I do not allow him to smoke in the house or the car, but I can still smell it on him.

@@paristupperware

you have to deal with husbands 2nd hand smoke

doc will know you are not the smoker

i don't "think" you'll have issues with ins. or doc cuz of hubby smoking

(thats just my laymen opinion)

don't worry too much

take a "deep breath" ;)

good luck :)

I would say, no. Your blood or urine will be checked for nicotine though, I am pretty sure. Nicotine can hinder your recovery.

When I had surgery on three vertabrae in my neck, the neurosurgeon asked my boyfriend to not smoke around me for at least six months, so he smoked outside. When I had my sleeve a year ago, my team said nothing about it.

My hubs and I quit the same day together, a year ago, in preparation for my surgery. I wanted to be dang sure I was nicotine free!

My mom was/is a serious smoker...all through my childhood. Fast forward and I am in my 40s, never smoked, but the Preadmissions people asked if I had been around 2nd hand smoke. I laughed and said, well, as a kid " the lady didn't laugh, she sent me down to get a chest X-ray, which kind of freaked me out. Needless to say, the xray came back fine, and I received my surgery a week later :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
