I got my approval for surgery! I have my final consult with my surgeon July 14th! I have a few more appts to attend before the final consult...but I can't believe this is actually going to happen! I wasn't getting my hopes up because I truly didn't think it would....I am starting to get excited and really gearing my brain in the direction of my new lifestyle! The office said that the surgery wouldn't be until August....that will give me the summer to really bite the bullet and get busy with learning the lap band way to eat. I am the heaviest I have ever been...286 lbs. I am fortunate to be tall...but I am most comfortable around 200 lbs. The best I have ever looked was at 178 lbs. Should have been running around nude! I have a way to go but I feel confident and hopeful! Does anyone have any advice on what it is I should start with as far as diet changes? What is the number one thing or the first thing to do? I stopped drinking soda and bread...what next?

I began exercising about 6 weeks before surgery.

I could only walk very slowly at first. 1/2 mile in 35 minutes. My knees would hurt . One day I would swim slowly for about 30 minutes. Next day walk.

This is my suggestion to you.

Congratulations on getting approved! It sounds like you have a great attitude and will do great with the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
