Discouraged Already

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved December 8th. Tomorrow, Monday will be exactly two weeks. I have only lost 14 pounds. Everyone that I read about on here has lost much more and I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I really don't eat at all. I drink but not the recommended amount. At least 30oz of Water. It is so hard to drink 64 Oz of water. My weight at the time of surgery was 273. I am 259 now. I thank God for the loss of the 14 pounds but shouldn't I have lost more by now? Btw. I ended up in E.R. two days ago because I hadn't had a bowel movement since a week before surgery. That has been taken care of so I don't know what the problem is. I have even been walking. Please help!

You said you are losing more than 1lb a day after surgery. To help us answer your questions, please remind us of how much you were losing per day before surgery?

I am pre-op but have been reading these boards daily for months. I don't remember reading about anyone losing more than a pound a day right out of surgery. What I do remember reading are posts like yours. And the advice that resonates with me is: Stay Off the scale.

You have lost weight. You have had major surgery. You are healing. You aren't yet able to get in all your Water and Protein.

Focus on healing and Water and protein!

I hope I am in your shoes soon and can remember my own advice.

I look forward to following you in your journey.

14 pounds in two weeks is amazing, congratulations!

Some folks might disagree, but from what i've seen with my own eyes, the bypass people i know lost their weight SO much quicker than the sleeve patients and guess what...those bypass people look SICK as in, they are ill. The sleeve people don't look horrible, because their weight loss was steady. It's why i decided to go with the Sleeve, even though my surgeon seemed to want to lean me towards the bypass.

Something tells me had you lost 54 pounds in two weeks, you'd probably be posting on here about it being too much in too little time.

Again, congratulations. It's a life long journey, not a quick fix.

What @@joatsaint said.

Stay off the scale, meet your daily Water and Protein goals, exercise, and maintain the nutritional plan outlined by your bariatric team. The weight will come off. Oh, and stay off of the scale.

Hopefully you didn't gain all your extra weight in only 14days. So why would you expect to loose it in less time than it took you to gain? Slow down and stop looking at the scale. Because you really are going to freak out if the scale shows you a gain and it might do that at some point . Ask yourself a few questions. Are you following dr/nuts advise? If yes then good job. Focus in Protein and liquids and remain calm :) you are loosing so that shows you the surgery is working. Just give it some time. It was a major surgery and your body needs time to adjust heal and get going again. Hugs of support

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
