Crappy Subject

Recommended Posts

This is a crappy topic, but here goes: I am almost 5 days post-op from R&Y, and have graduated from liquid poop to dark, tarry, foul smelling, stools. Seriously, I told my husband he should probably leave the house for a few days. I know this can be one of the signs of Intnal bleeding, but couldn't it also just be leftover blood that was inside me from the surgery?

Everything else is going great. I was kept in hospital for three days, and came home late yesterday afternoon. I am eating and drinking ok, and have little pain except when getting up and down. No energy yet, but that will return in a week, or two.

Anyone have any crappy problems like this that took care of itself? ;-)

The same thing happened to me but I got very weak on day 7 and when I went to the emergency room I was admitted for internal bleeding. Not trying to scare you but if you are bleeding it's very serious.

I highly suggest calling your surgeons office and just talking to the doc on call. It is always better to be safe than sorry. Please let the doctor make the call if this is concerning or not. Let us know how you are doing.

Call your doctor right away. No, I didn't have any black stool from left over blood in there. If you have black stool it's serious.

Thank you, all, for the responses. I will call mr dr.

I'm not one that likes to call and make a fuss over nothing, so I was hoping this was just something I could roll with. Hopefully, it will be.

Just wanted to check and see how you are doing and what your surgeon said?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
