No restriction

Recommended Posts

Hi , I'm 9 days out and feel no restriction, eaten 1100 cal so far today and still hungry , all puréed foods. I'm extremely upset , waited 10 mths for this to have a chance to be normal and now feel like I've failed again!!

you may need to be specific, is that 9 days post op? or 9 days out pre surg? and what kind of surgery? sleeve, bypass, roux, lap band etc.

although I wouldn't know how you could possibly take in 1100 calories in puree. unless you ate ice cream, or snack foods. and if you know you're eating bad things, then I have to ask. Why the heck are you eating them? Didn't you change you eating habits PRIOR to the surgery? Did no one tell you the surgery does not stop you from eating, and it does not keep you from eating bad things? Heck im 3 days post op on my sleeve and I know I could eat part of an ice cream sundae, or non sugar free chocolate pudding, or non sugar free Jello, etc. maybe some nice chocolate mousse with cool whip on top. but why would I do that? Im trying to lose weight and so are you. Im not yelling at you but these surgeries are not going to do it for you, YOU still have to make the change. I going to hope and ask if you could maybe seek out some counseling help either in group or with psychiatric help, to se why you're eating so much still. good luck , You can do this, Maybe you weren't really ready for this attempt at this time. This is a very hard thing to do.

I agree with the others, what are you eating? I'm 3 mnths out and even on my hungriest, busiest gym days I don't think I could eat 1100 calories.

It is common to not feel a lot of restriction in the puree phase; many people don't feel it until they get on solids.

This is why it is very important at your stage to measure and weigh all your food and do NOT eat more than you should (2 tablespoons at 9 days out) at one meal and do NOT eat more than every 3 hours. DO eat pureed Protein FIRST and do NOT consume starches, sugars, etc. If you are eating only every 3 hours and eating your lean Protein puree first, 1100 calories would be very difficult.

I'm 13 months out and 1100 calories is hard for me unless I'm just eating junk.

Did your surgeon prescribe Prilosec? I was also feeling that hungry sensation in my stomach (not head hunger) and talked about it with my surgeon who told me it was probably all the air and gas bubbles. He gave me Prilosec to take once a day and it is gone now. Maybe that would help? Also, try not to graze... set some meal times and eat healthy foods at those allotted times until you are full. Try to get into the habit of avoiding the snacking all day. Best of luck!

Hi all, I am only eating baby food fruits, puréed Soups, bariatric oatmeal thinned w milk, protien shakes, and yogurt. I add unflavored protien powder to everything which ups the calories. I'm so scared this just didn't work for me. If I could control my portion size I wouldn't have needed the surgery. I feel the same as I did prior to surgery. No restriction at all. I know I shouldn't have done this today but I ate a whole banana to see if I'd feel any thing and nada!!! I could've eaten another. Please tell me this isn't happening !

I'm not understanding why you aren't even trying. How much Water are you drinking? If you stick to 3 or 4 small meals a day and drinking Water in between you should feel full. Aim for Protein first. The closer you get to regular food the fuller you should feel. Did you doctor or nutritionist give you a recommended food plan? The thing is this is as much as mental game as it is a physical one. Instead of trying to see if you can eat a whole banana, why not see if you can eat a third of a banana and still be satisfied?

You might be one of those people who benefit from keeping a food diary on myfitnesspal or somewhere. I typically start my day by planning my menu for the day. It makes me more aware of what I am eating for the day. I also make sure to allow for time to drink water to make sure I am getting in my 64ounces in .

This is not a magic wand. You have to work to change your eating habits and it will help you.

I have been keeping track of everything on my fitness pal And I get all my fluids I too . The entire purpose of having this surgery is to be able to physically have that feeling between your ribs of restriction so you know when to stop . I'm telling you I don't have it , therefore I am in the same boat as before surgery . I am certainly trying but when there's no difference what can I do then it's just another failed diet where I can't control the portion as usual. Why did everyone have this surgery ... So you feel full!

I think we have different understandings. I was told that it would help, but I was also warned that it is possible to stretch the sleeve. I've heard of people not feeling full early on so it's entirely to overeat and be back at square one. What instructions did your doctor/nutritionist give you? Are you on ant-acid? Sometimes the excess acid can feel like hunger and it takes a while to be able to tell the difference.

If you would like to friend me on MFP to compare food dairy's my username is Milaxx. I just don't understand why you would record 11,000 in calories and not look for ways to cut back.

This soon out your stomach is still numb from the surgery. You could very well be full, but not feel it. You could be going damage to your sleeve if you are overfilling yourself but it's unlikely you are stretching it as suggested above. (Sleeves don't really stretch.)

Weigh and measure everything. Once you are on solid foods, I have no doubt you will feel restriction from dense Protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
