:decision: I'm going to have surgery on 6-19-07 and I'm struggling a little with the "Atkins" type diet did great for two weeks and know not so well the last two days. Not sure why. I have had nutritional counceling, a psychological eval and lab work this fri. My Dr. is Dr. M Srekanth in Federal Way, Wa. Any other Tacoma people and any advise on the diet thing?

Welcome to LBT and congrats on your date!

Be thankfull you didn't have a full liquid diet! YUCK! All I can say is keep on with the Atkins type diet, it will be so worth it to NOT have a large liver come operation day!

Lovely, wipe the slate clean. Don't dwell on the past couple of days. Start over on the high protein/low carb diet TODAY.

I did the same diet prior to my surgery, lost 20 lbs (probably half was water) BUT I'm convinced it helped with my recovery.

I had almost none of the severe gas pains you hear about, just slept laid back in a recliner for two weeks and used a heating pad two nights on a slightly sore shoulder (mild has pains). That's not to say that I was not extremely sore in the abdomen, like you would expect after this type of surgery. I took the liquid codiene every 4 hours to help me rest/sleep/recover. After 3 days I weaned myself off, and used adult liquid Tylenol when needed.

Wishing you all the best from TX,

Karla

I'm a newcomer to this site and to the lapband surgery. I'm in the very beginning stages of researching and scheduling appointments to qualify. I'm in the Des Moines, IA metro. If anyone is willing to give me some pointers I'd sure appreciate it.

I would go to my primary care doctor and see if there is someone they would recommend and also, call your insurance co. and see what they have to say. All insurance's are different. Mine said that I had to have two or more conditions and a BMI over 40. I don't even have one condition except being overweight. So, I talked to my primary care Dr. and she refered me to a local Dr. that has a cash pay discount and I researched them and went for it. :gluck:

PS thanks for the advise just being able to get on this site and talk with others is helping make a difference. I did great today.:D:)

I don't have a date for surgery, but by June 9 will have finished all the pre-op consults, etc. I will just need insurance approval which should not be a problem as I have BC BC federal and the surgery is covered. I am going on vacation mid-june and out of town for work the last week in June. I hope I can have the surgery after that in July. I will find out probably by mid-june. I am ready.

My only problem seems to be that now that I have decided on surgery my appetite is through the roof...did that happen to anyone else?

Good luck with your surgery.

sunny

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
