My Twin is having surgery today in Mexico alone…please wish her luck!

Recommended Posts

My twin @@bams1220 is having her WLS in Mexico today. I was suppose to be there with her, but something came up and I couldn't go so she went alone yesterday. I'm the brave, stronger one and will try anything once. I've even gone on vacation alone before. This is her first time going on a trip alone and all the way to Mexico at that and to have this surgery. I had to encourage her, but it didn't take much because she really wanted to have this surgery. Her insurance doesn't cover the surgery. My date will be in January or February which will be covered by insurance. We're very close and I've been communicating with her since I dropped her off at the airport. She was suppose to be first but her surgery was delayed this morning. I haven't heard from her since they picked her up from the hotel. Can't wait to hear how she's doing. Please pray and wish her luck. Love you @@bams1220!!!

This is her first time going on a trip alone

@@Ladiec2

that is a good sign that she feels brave enough to travel to Mexico

with, or without you!!!

people tell wonderful stories about their experiences in mexico

good "pickup"/transportation service bringing them to hospital

good treatment from nurses and doctors

nice/clean hospital

its understandable you are worried about her, but............

hopefully you'll hear from her soon

and all will have gone well

she is lucky to have such a caring sibling

the two of you will support each other

good luck to you on your upcoming surgery

speedy recovery for you both

Prayers and good luck! No need to worry - I had my surgery in Tijuana Mexico on Nov 20th and it was a great experience - it was very safe and the hotel and transportation drivers were excellent! I'm sure she's going to have the same experience. :-)

Thanks all. They ran tests and found out that her blood was very low so she's waiting on the doctor to come talk to her after he finishes up doing a bypass. Getting kind of worried….not sure what they'll do in this situation.

Oh no....you know the same thing happened to me! I'm usually very anemic and I told the docs on the paperwork I submitted and wasn't told to do anything to remedy that beforehand. When they did my bloodwork right before surgery, they almost didn't do my surgery because of my low red blood cells. I cried, but they decided to move forward. It was only after that, I researched the dangers of WLS and anemia (or any surgery with anemic patients) and I found it is extremely dangerous. I thank God nothing happened to me. If they decide to postpone, tell her it's better to wait than to take that huge risk!

Praying everything goes her way!

Haven't had any sleep. Been up all night worrying and waiting for a text or a phone call to come through. Haven't heard anything since the text that they were gonna take her back for surgery and that was around 9:30 p.m. EST and its now 6:00 a.m. Tried calling but no answer. Trying to be patient.

How stressful! I'm sure she's fine and just sleeping. Where is she having surgery? I was at OCC and my parents and sister were given their direct line as well as the on call doctor's number. Is there anyway you can contact the facility just to check on her? Or if she went through a Medical Tourism company, can you contact the coordinator?

They had my number to contact me as soon as she came out of surgery. I tried contacting the coordinator, but no response. i haven't called the hospital, but I'll try that. Her surgery was scheduled at Hospital Vida. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just heard from my sister..whewwww! They were suppose to call me right after surgery, but dropped the ball. I had called the hospital and they don't speak english. I can finally rest and get a nap in today. Everything went well. She's not in any pain at all. Thanks for all your concerns. She'll post her experience later.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
