Momof2inIowa 195 Posted December 19, 2014 Yeah some say that they get rid of the hunger and some don't. I wasn't lucky enough to not be hungry but with just a few bites I am full so I call that win!

BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted December 19, 2014 I was on full liquids for the first 2 weeks post op and occasionally I would feel hungry. It went away as soon as I took as sip of my Protein Shake, but it didn't get better until I was allowed to eat. Hang in there.
Shannon Piper 11 Posted December 21, 2014 I had the sleeve on Dec 17th. From the moment I woke up in recovery I have been hungry. I am craving meat like crazy. I was told over and over by former patients that you never crave food again. What a bunch of BS. I experience gurgling in my stomach that is acid reflux and I feel tortured seeing food commercials on TV. Worst time of the year for this around the holidays. Can only hope this gets better. And those boring Protein shakes do NOT make you feel full. Total myth.

And those boring Protein shakes do NOT make you feel full. Total myth. Everyone is different. I was not hungry when I woke up. I've never heard about not craving. Cravings are equal parts mental and physical so it is possible to not be hungry AND have cravings. As your doctor to prescribe something for the acid. I was started on omeprazole in the hospital which helped a lot. My Protein Shakes fill me up. Perhaps try adding some greek yogurt to help fill you. I use FAGE 0%. It's a great Protein boost as well. Holiday food? Meh. However if you must, perhaps figuring out healthier versions of holiday food would help. It's not a magic wand, it's a tool. You have to do the work of learning new and healthier eating habits.
roundisashape 712 Posted December 21, 2014 It's safe to take regular antacids (like Tums or Rolaids) while you're on a PPI to handle any breakthrough - I've been popping a mint Tums when I think I'm hungry and I shouldn't be just to see if it helps. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, and I just operate on the assumption that I really am hungry when it doesn't and I'll have a couple of bites of something (right now, it's usually yogurt or applesauce or something since I'm still doing purees for a few more days). Shannon Piper 11 Posted December 21, 2014 Yes I think my body is just trying to adjust. Although I am craving food, I am nowhere near the food stage of this program yet, so I don't even know yet what I can tolerate for solid food. I will learn it as each stage comes along. But those shakes are getting boring real fast.
VSG Davis 19 Posted December 21, 2014 I have mixed 2 different flavors of Protein for a couple days then go back to one - I figure it's only 2 wks - keep reminding myself I did this for a reason - keep the faith & stay the course - good luck
Shannon Piper 11 Posted December 21, 2014 Yup I keep telling myself I did this for a reason too. Thinking about writing a book about all this. Its amazing how much the Nut and doctor don't warn you about what to expect. And its amazing how some things affect certain people and others have no problems at all
TrimTrekker 18 Posted December 21, 2014 I'm with you Shannon. I was sleeved 12/18. I'm hungry too. I want everything I see as well. I went to the movies today with my family. I wanted nachos so bad and I didn't even see them.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted December 22, 2014 I'm with you Shannon. I was sleeved 12/18. I'm hungry too. I want everything I see as well. I went to the movies today with my family. I wanted nachos so bad and I didn't even see them. Again, it's early yet. You have to allow time for your body to readjust. Also those mental habits don't magically go away. You likely wanted nachos because you always had nachos when you went to the movies. You body associates nachos with going to the movies. Kind of a Pavlovian response. Just remember you just had the surgery. Follow the nutritionist recommendations and stop. Don't overeat/drink. try ant-acids when you think you are hungry in between. It takes a minute to tell the difference between head hungry and when your sleeve is full. Feeling like this now is normal.
TrimTrekker 18 Posted December 24, 2014 Thanks BLERDgirl, I'm sure you're right about it being a Pavlovian response. I'm now trying to figure out my other cravings.
