Hi friends. I was wanting to see how you all combat fatigue?

I have had a ton of fatigue since surgery. Which for some reason wasn't something I was prepared for.

coffee and I are no longer friends :( it sends me to the bathroom.... QUICK. And not in the normal "coffee way". It's just bad.

I did find a great tea that gives me a little boost, 'Yogi' perfect energy black tea. But I'm looking for more options!

Help a sister out! Oh and did I mention I'm the mother of a 1 1/2 year old??? Lol I need my energy!

Some fatigue for the first month or so is normal. Not much to do but listen to your body and give it the rest it needs to heal. I found for the first few weeks I needed a mid day nap. Surprisingly once I started back at the gym I felt better.

Are you on any supplements and Vitamins? As much as I hate taking them, I think they helped.

How's your Water? If you're drinking less than 64 ounces a day of liquids, you WILL be fatigued. It's one of the most prominent symptoms of dehydration.

I feel ya!!! I'm a week out from surgery and exhausted from doing regular activities like going to the Doc or running to Walmart. I've found that if I drink a small glass of 100% apple juice (no more than 5 ounces) I perk back up a bit. It seems to be because of low blood sugar for me.

Ahhh...being a mom of a 1.5 year old will make you tired...much less adding surgery to the mix! I also see a higher fatigue level if I don't drink enough and get some decent Protein. I have a hard time sleeping at night, so I don't nap during the day. Just trying to get the right mix yet!

Thank you for the awesome tips guys! As for B12 I do injections every month so I don't think it's that. I take Celebrate Multivitamins, Iron and Vitamin d.

I'm starting to think it's my Water and protein!!! Any kind of Protein supplement I've tried has given me dumping so I have to get my Protein through food, which is hard. Premier Protein worked well for me but I don't have a costco card so I can't really get it when I need it :/

Thank you for the awesome advice!!!

Walgreens carries Premier Protein or you can buy it online. What foods are you eating for Protein? Are you getting in at least 60gms?

I do a homemade Protein shake. I use either Fage or Oikos zero fat greek yogurt (22g Protein per 8oz). Put yogurt in blender with some fruit (I like strawberries or bananas) stevia to taste 4tbs powdered nonfat milk (9g protein) and 4oz skim milk (4g protein) and 1 oz Feta cheese (7g protein). Total protein is about 42g Turns out yummy (you don't taste Feta) and no need to drink store bought protein! Its about 275cal so I only drink one a day and get the rest of my protein via other foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
