11 year veteran with heartburn/intestinal issues

Recommended Posts

I had a RNY done 11 years ago. Until March of this year I had no complications. In March I started to experience problems with my bowel movements and developed heartburn. I also started to have problems keeping food down. I started to drop weight again and because some days I can't keep food down I don't know how to keep from losing any more weight. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and can give me some advice on what I should be doing and not doing to fix this problem. Thanks in advance for your help

I have a close friend who is 15 years out and has experienced similar symptoms on two different occasions. Both times turned out to be a bleeding ulcer at the anastomosis. Absolutely treatable but sooner is better than later. If you have not done so already, I would encourage you to see either your surgeon or a gastroenterologist without delay. There are a list of other possible causes but regardless, it's always better to know rather than guess. Please share the results of what you learn so that everyone can benefit from your experience. Looking forward to hearing of your full recovery!!

Thank you for your input. I currently don't have health insurance so when I can get the money to go see a gastroenterologist I will let you know what they say. Thank you again for your help

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
