Hi! I'm getting bypass on Friday and my nerves are taking over me as I get closer. I'm sure this is all normal! But I'm just all over the place with emotions.

Vets: Have you had a moment of regret? How truly happy are you now and how has your life changed?

5 weeks post op...I was sooooo ready to do it....I have never had a moment of regret. Already off 3 of my former meds...My legs don't hurt when I climb steps and I seem to bounce through the day.

I am also 5 weeks postop. My nerves kind of kicked in a lot the last day or two before surgery but I really had to trust in my months of research & prep work before that point and know that I was making the right decision. On surgery day, I really had to just sort of pretend it wasn't happening, just to calm my nerves! It is scary. But - the good news is it was no where near as difficult as I expected. Very little pain, mostly just mild discomfort. The nurses treated me wonderfully and that first 24-48 hours went by quickly. For the next couple of weeks after, there was some adjustments time getting used to what I could & couldn't tolerate well, but I fully expected that so it also went smoothly. The best part was waking up each morning and almost running to the scale to see how much more I had lost!!

So, for me, definitely no regrets! Though I am still really just getting started, I can already tell such a big difference in how I feel. Pain in my back, knees & feet is already gone. I sleep much better. I am off more than half of my meds already and I have HOPE for my future now!

One year post op. Honestly, I did have regrets for a month or two. I think because I'm an emotional person. But I would never look back now. Everything is so much better now. Off of three meds. Diabetes gone. Can move around without running out of breath. So, look forward to Friday. It's all easier after that. Even if you feel a little sad, remember how much your life will change for the better. Best of luck to you.

9 months post-op and not a single regret. I knew it wouldn't be pleasant the first couple of weeks, but all-in-all it wasn't horrible and the results are amazing!!!!!!

You have to know that you are giving up your former way of eating. There are very big changes. Regrets-only the first night after surgery. I think that was mainly because I had complications brought on by scar tissue and a couple other things so my surgery was about 4 hours long. I was VERY groggy and out of it, by the next day, I was feeling better. I was in the hospital for 4 days and was ready to get out! I had to take things extra slow. My pain was minimal, my gas was not near as bad as I had heard it would be. I no longer take my HBP, diabetes and cholesterol meds. I check my sugar and blood pressure daily and they are in normal range. My energy is higher and I too can do the stairs with a lot less pain in my knees. So just prepare yourself for the changes...but it is worth it! Good Luck, you'll be great!

I am in my 12th week post op and I feel like I have a whole new life. I am off every single medication now. No more diabetes, no more high cholesterol, no more high blood pressure. I CAN and do exercise regularly because my joints do not hurt as bad as they once did. I no longer have cravings for sweets at all, thank goodness! I currently do not suffer from dumping either so I have tasted sweets, they simply taste horrible to me.

I eat much healthier because that is what my new body craves. I am down 4 sizes already in clothing and close to getting into the next size.

Everyday I wake up I have more energy than I can remember having in the last 20 years.

I thank god everyday for this gift and never have I regretted it even for one second. It was a lot less painful than I was anticipating and that was only for a day or two.

Good luck! You are going to do great and you will be happy you made the decision to get healthier!

I am one month post op today! I did say in the hospital "what have I done" but that was because my surgeon thought I was septic. Gladly I was not and just had an infection from the Foley catheter. I was in the hospital for 4 days. However, I have not one single regret! I could never achieve my goal without the help. I'm a happy girl! Best wishes to you. ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
