I am in my week 5 after surgery and I am having trouble with the soft food part of my diet. I try things and no sooner I eat I am throwing up what I ate and a lot of the flem prior to any of the food I ate. I am not sure what is happening here or am I pushing the soft food part of my journey too fast? Any advise or help would be appreciated so I can start to feel better on this journey I decided to take and loose the weight with the help of this great tool I have.

If you didn't have any issues with pureeds then it's probably just too soon for the soft foods. Everbody progresses differently. Maybe go back to pureeds for a week and then try soft foods again. There's no rush. Might be a good idea to talk with your surgeon about it as well. Good Luck!

I agree! I would go back to puréed foods for a week then try soft foods again. If that still doesn't work see your surgeon. Also how fast are you eating soft foods and are you drinking and eating together. I used to throw up after eating chicken breast for some reason, two or three bites and it would come right back up.

It could be what you are eating as well that is causing you to throw up as well as how fast you are eating it. When introducing soft foods I learned I had to try one new food at a time and go very very slow. I still have trouble with ground beef and eggs of any kind and I am 12 weeks along.

Fish and chicken works great for me. But I have to really take my time and stop as soon as I think I am getting full.

In the early stages right after surgery, the important things are meeting the Protein, Vitamin and liquid requirements of the program. In this stage your body is converting the fat cells you have stored in your body into energy. So food intake isn't really that important in this stage.

I'm with DJMOHR, you should be trying one item as a time and I'd add that you should only have a couple tablespoons at that. You're pouch needs to figure things out and stuffing too much in isn't going to work. I'm 9 months out and still can't do ground beef or really any kind of beef. I can eat eggs alone, but if I mix anything in with them, all bets are off. It's a learning process, even this far out. You'll get there, just go slowly. Success is going to happen for you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
