Those of you that flew to Mexico for your surgery- how did you handle your flight back? I am travelling from San Diego to Toronto, it's going to be interesting...

I only had like a 2 hour flight, so really no issues. I wore the compression stockings that my surgeon provided and walked the halls waiting for my flight. Needed to ask for help lifting my carryon onto the X-ray belt and into the overhead compartment. I was told to get up and walk the aisles if it was a longer flight, so you might want an aisle seat. I brought along propel zero packets and Decaf tea bags and I also found Muscle Milk Protein Shakes in the airport. But It will definitely be a long day!

It was going to take the whole day to get back to Florida and I knew I wouldn't be up to it so my husband and I made a vacation of it and stayed with his parents in Los Angeles for two weeks. Even after two weeks finding enough Protein and fluids for the ride home was expensive and difficult. I did need a pillow to put in front of my stomach on the ride from TJ to LA, though. Do you have someone going with you? I made my husband carry everything.

I made that exact flight in September when I had my sleeve done. I flew in and arrived after regular pick up time so I stayed in San Diego right by the airport. That flight there was harder I felt because the guy beside me was eating a Tim Hortens sandwich and I was starving. It was also very crampy as I flew Air Canada. Next am I was picked up brought to clinic text done and had surgery by 3pm I think. I flew back on the 4th day post surgery and when checking in found out that I could upgrade for $150 to first class. I was already going to pay $40 for the extra room seats and $50 for my luggage, I did some shopping in Mexico. Because I was comfortable and could move around easily I only got up once to use bathroom so the flight home was great, but kinda funny that you get offered great food and you can't eat. Hardest part was getting bags off of carousel. Just get up and walk around and at least get your self some extra leg room. Good luck.

I will definitely check into upgrade to first class. I am going alone, so I will be asking strangers to help with the bag. I am only taking carry on- bare necessities. Thank you all for sharing.

I traveled by myself from TX, and I packed very lightly. I was able to do everything, but my issue was with staying hydrated. When traveling we sometimes forget to drink Water. Therefore drink WATER!!! LOL Travel with a rolling suitcase, pack as lightly as possible and ask for help if you need it. If you follow your diet, you will have less pain. Good luck!

I flew into Newark NJ, I had one transfer flight and it was a nightmare because it ended up getting canceled and I had to sleep in the airport overnight, not pleasant after surgery, thankfully, my sister took good care of me.

If you are flying without a companion, aim for a direct flight and pack light. The flight itself was not an issue, even with turbulence. Remember to get up and walk down the aisle every hour or two.

I also flew first class back and regular there, first time flying first class and I didn't get to eat the warm nuts but it was worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
