Woop Woop, Surgery day on the 18th ... input on packing.

Recommended Posts

I will be packing tomorrow, for my surgery this Thursday. So far some of the things I have packed are lotion, face lotion, gas ex strips, burts bee's lip balm, a tablet, PJ's, and some books. Am I missing anything crucial that will help to increase my comfort. Doc said I will be staying at least two days at the hospital due to the fact that I live an hour and a half away from it. Input on any other essentials would be awesomesauce!

Slippers for you to walk around, a pillow for the ride home to cover your stomach, and mouthwash because your mouth is dry after and you can't drink. My favorite thing I brought was a heated blanket, it felt so good on my tummy!

@simplyblessed- I did not have a heated blanket at the time of my surgery however my husband bought me one within a week because I have been absolutely chilled to the core ever since my surgery! This blanket has become my BEST buddy! I went to spend a night at my best friends house and I pulled it off my bed to take it with me!

@coastalchick- I wanted a hairbrush by the time day one post-op hit and I asked my hubby to grab one from home. I was allowed to shower that night while sitting on a shower chair but I did not wash my hair because the brush was forgotten and I knew there was NO way that the brush the hospital gave me would do the trick. Im not sure how much hair you have but this was the only item I wanted that I did not have with me. I took a book and my iPad but I never touched either of them because after walking I was always only awake for minutes. You're exhausted at first. Good Luck!

I just took my toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, change of clothes to wear home! The doctor told me not to bring a lot of stuff because most of it you won't even use!

You will not need the pjs, you will be in a hospital gown. If anything you could bring a robe or wrap (non terrycloth)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
