Hi guys and gals,

Has anyone here had the surgery done robotically? I have been offered that option, but I would have to travel to either Florida or California.

My dad has his bypass done by the Davinci robot! I had my sleeve done by our surgeon himself. (His surgery was back in April mine was only November 28th) Both my dad and I were pleased with the results. His incisions seem to have been a little bigger than mine (he had less incisions though). He was also more bruised than I. Realistically though who has steadier hands than a robot?! Sorry I cant offer personal advice. The technology itself just amazes me! Good luck! :-)

I did. It was laproscopically robotics. The surgeon is still there guiding and checking everything. My surgery was a breeze.

Thanks everyone. They are saying they will fly me and my wife out to California, put me up in a hotel, do the surgery at an ambulatory hospital, provide a nurse in a hotel room for a couple days (wink) then send me home.

This is through the O-Band center, via the verbukh medical group in Brooklyn.Anyone heard of either of these two?

Are you self pay? Why not look into a local practice?

Insurance has approved me for this provider. I can switch to any provider I want, but it's likely to delay things somewhat. The California trip is for Robotics, but they will do it the old fashioned way here, in Brooklyn, i I choose to stay here

Have you met with them yet? What stage are you at in the process?

That's quite a hike! Are you in New York also? My dad had it done on Long Island robotically. I mean if iit's the nurse in the hotel room peaking your interest who could blame you?! Haha I'm just surprised the distance you have to travel. Just make sure you explore all your options! Personally I'd rather be nearer home than go with the robot if those were my options.

A nurse shouldn't be a big selling point. I was home and had a visiting nurse once I was discharged. I'm not familiar with this provider, but you could check the surgeons list on this site.

I was joking about the nurse.

Blerdgirl, I have been approved and yes, I have met the surgeon. I think I'm going to stay local in Brooklyn

I had the Davinci robotic surgery in Saginaw, Michigan. I work for doctors that use the Davinici for surgeries they perform so it was an easy decision for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
