sleevedmanda 35 Posted December 18, 2014 My evaluation was a $25 co-pay, 10 minute conversation over the phone. Easy peasy. She just asked me maybe 30 questions all regarding wls, and that was it.
oatmealgirl 56 Posted December 18, 2014 Wow, that's scary! What I did was called my insurance company and asked which doctor they recommend I use. United Health Care has a Bariatric department so they recommended my nutritionists and the psychologist. To anyone not at this phase yet, your insurance company can be a valuable resource. Good luck to you Lauren and I wish you a speedy approval!
oatmealgirl 56 Posted December 18, 2014 I see you did use your insurance company. My apologies I missed this page! But I agree with VSG Ann, some things you just can't skimp on. But hey, you live and learn. I hope you're approval is on the way!
laurenella82 625 Posted December 18, 2014 UPDATE!!!! I went BACK today to see the psych doctor and FINALLY he will be sending in the evaluation with his "stamp of approval" today. I also got an email from my primary care provider. She is resending her approval today. Apparently she sent it at our last appointment but it didn't get to the right person. All of my test results are in the system and I know that for sure because I can actually see them in the patient portal. Now I'm just waiting on confirmation that my cardiologist sent her part in and I'm good to go for insurance approval. Whooohooo!

laurenella82 625 Posted December 18, 2014 So glad you got this straightened out. So, you're unemployed but have insurance that will pay for WLS? Good for you! Yes! I have Amerihealth DC which is a medicaid managed care program. They paid for a friend of mine to have gastric bypass some years ago so I knew they would pay for it for me too.
