Post Surgery Blues anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I got banded in March and the first two weeks, I had major complications due to swelling. I couldn't eat or drink or even swallow my spit. Luckily, NWWLSC had a protocol to follow and I was able to get the help and medical assistance I required. I have lost around 25# to date, but am experiancing the blues and can't seem to shake them. Is this yet another complication? If so, does it pass soon?

I had depression . I was depressed about the volume of food I could not eat ever again. When I bought my pair of 18 jeans the depression just went away ...Ha ha

Honestly, I think just about everyone experiences this at some point. Hopefully it won't last long for you, especially when you see how wonderful you are looking and how much better you are feeling!

I only just went through this depression over my loss of food. I had my band a year ago, but for some reason went through a really rough period about a month ago where I was really depressed about things I couldn't eat and not being able to eat more. It hit me at the same time I hit a plateau, so I think I was upset because I was following all the rules and not losing, so I was feeling like I should just go ahead and eat what I want if I am not going to lose. But, alas, the things I wanted were bread and my band won't tolerate bread. Thanks to a wonderfully supportive hubby and family, and a great doctor, I was able to work through those feelings and am back on track now.

Talking to your doctor may help. Also, do you attend a local support group? They really are wonderful.

Nope, not alone. Not by a long shot. I still get depressed from time to time about my band...... Some days I want to reach down my throat and yank it out....somedays I could fall to the ground singing it's praises.

Such is the life of a bandster.

Someone mentioned support group, I wholeheartedly agree!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
