What kind of activity/exercise not to do after VSG surgery?

Recommended Posts

I underwent gastric sleeve surgery on 9th December'14. Can anyone please tell me the activity, body motion (i.e. bending, walking down the stairs etc.) and exercises to avoid post surgery and for how long?

I think I was told to avoid lifting too much...anything weighing more than a gallon of milk...for a fee weeks. I got the OK from my doc to start working out at the 4 week post op point. But, I'd had no issues after surgery. Anyway, been doing intense kickboxing type circuit training ever since. 5 days a week.

Thank you for the quick response. I will keep that in mind. Is there any restriction on bending down to pick up any item?

You can do anything that is comfortable except pick up any weight (or push) above 25 lbs. I think 10 pounds should be the max. After 3 days I insured myself pushing something and my tummy was on fire for 24 hours. Bad idea. As far a bending over I purchased a picker upper. Those long arm things with a grip at the end. It saved me because bending over for the first few weeks was difficult. Your incisions are not sealed for about 3 weeks and when you bend over it puts pressure on those.

Your doctor gives you the all clear for exercise depending on your situation and it's usually at 4 weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
