simplyblessed 15 Posted December 16, 2014 I had surgery 12/11, discharged on 12/12. I have a question about sipping. I know in the hospital it was 1 once every 15 minutes. How long does that last? I'm having a hard time sipping and drinking my 1 ounce normally. I have been drinking about 2 ounces every 15 minutes and I don't know if that's bad or ok. And don't know how long I need to sip rather than drink normally (not gulp). Thanks
Fullofitx3 146 Posted December 16, 2014 Just take it easy the first couple of days / weeks and just keep sipping, you kind have to learn what you can handle by trial and error, during my first couple weeks it I tried to drink to fast or gulp Water it I would very uncomfortable like it was sitting right on my chest. Best of luck on your journey.
Elode 8,093 Posted December 16, 2014 No that's good, I'm sure it's just a guide until you can drink "normal" if you can drink more without issue or pain then I say go for it! Being hydrated it important and the better you can hydrate yourself the better off you will be! Keep up the good work!@@simplyblessed
Beni 1,484 Posted December 16, 2014 You are doing amazing. I could only get 1 oz per 15 minutes. I would line up little plastic medicine cups with Fluid. I sipped very small sips. In the first 5 days I only made it 32 to 40 oz per day and I was fine. I remmember saying that drinking was my full time job because it was so hard. I was either sleeping or sipping. I even drank every time I woke up in the middle of the night. If I had to go to the bathroom I wouldn't get back to bed until I had 1 or 2 oz. Something that was easy to drink was 1 part apple juice (no sugar added) with 2 or 3 parts Water and a cube of ice. The hint of sweetness calmed my tummy.
