Did I lose enough weight?

Recommended Posts

I just had my 2 week appointment and I lost 21 lbs. Do you think that is a good start or am I a slow loser? What have others lost for their first 2 weeks?

I haven't had surgery yet but think about this..when is the last time you last 21 pounds in 2 weeks (aside from perhaps your preop diet) I can honestly answer never..great job

That's an awesome start. I only lost about 12 the first couple of weeks. I gained a lot of Water weight from the surgery & IVs and that took a few days to get out of my system. Then I lost a pound a day for a while, which felt like Christmas every morning! But then I hit the dreaded 3rd week stall - prepare yourself. You might also hit a stall for a few days or even a week now. Don't be discouraged if it happens - apparently it is quite common.

Congrats on your success so far. The fun is just beginning!

Thanks! I heard about the dreaded stall I am not looking forward to it. Right now I am trying eggs for the first time...it's so hard knowing how slow to eat etc. I don't know how to tell when I'm full because I don't really ever feel hungry I am just eating supper because I need the Protein

You are doing fantastic! You will slow down and stall at times but just remember that it is your longer term health that is important. If you follow all the guidelines the weight will come off.

You are doing wonderful. Keep up the good work. And don't forget everyone is different. Some lose faster or slower. I personally never had a stall. You might not either. Just keep hydrated and with the Protein.< /p>

If you don't feel hungry but need to eat to get the Protein how do you know when you are full?

I also lost 20# my first visit 2 weeks, I was depressed at first after hearing about all the weight that people could lose, but then after being thumped on the head for a few times I realized that 20# was a great loss. Now I am losing 6-8# a week and get discouraged, I just have to remember this is a long term process and not a miracle pill. I have increased my walking and am feeling better about myself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
