bellabloom 2,467 Posted January 16, 2015 I find that I do best when I eat one to two times per day. I focus on the Protein first and have a few nibbles on tastier things with carbs. I'm five weeks out and still have never reached more than 500 calories and 30 grams of Protein a day. It's a struggle for sure. I gave up on Protein Shakes weeks ago. Barf. Tmi but I used to be anorexic and bulimic. I went for months without eating at times and I never lost my hair or or got sick. On one level this worries me because I don't have a lot of fear of what could happen. I'm not very good at following rules. On another hand I am not really worried because I know it's going to get better and in three months I can swallow Vitamins which will make taking my Vitamins much easier. I have so much naseau and pain in my stomach at times, tastes make me sick and I really struggle with the supplements and portions. I would rather not deal with food at all most of the time! I have lost 35 pounds since surgery and I have pretty low energy. I'm going to start working out this week because I think that will actually help a lot. It takes time! I'm happy to see you all doing well!!
fat2fitva 5 Posted January 16, 2015 Eating is definitely a challenge. I used to love food. Now I loathe it. For Breakfast I usually have a protien shake (premier protien - at room temperature). lunch was cottage cheese with fruit. I had an Atkins chewy bar for a snack. dinner is the hardest and not sure what I am going to have but I can say that most meats do not sit well with me. I have spent a lot of time in the bathroom throwing up what didn't go down the right way. Last night I made salmon. My family loved it and I couldn't bear to smell it, let alone put it in my mouth. My current preferred protien is cottage cheese and eggs are not very tasty to me. Salads are ok as long as there is no meat and they are baby greens. And I know I am supposed to be having more Snacks but it just hasn't worked out that way with my work schedule! I started at 235 and I am down to 209, currently. I can't wait to lose some more. annebqui 21 Posted January 16, 2015 I'm glad (though sorry) to hear that others are having problems with foods too. There are things I just can't even bear to taste. Are you tolerating the Atkins bar ok? I have some Quest bars, but have not tried them yet. I can handle fish and ground meats. Anything else is hard to tolerate. Luckily I haven't thrown up from anything yet, but I've had some powerful cramping in my stomach area a couple of times. I just wish I could manage the liquids better. BearerOfLight 9 Posted January 16, 2015 Hello! I just turned 41 a coup,e of days ago and had my RNY done in December 10th. I am blessed to not have had any complications or much pain at all. I can eat and drink normally, except smaller portions, and I have not found anything that I don't tolerate yet, I can even eat and drink together. The hard part is how slowly I am losing. Only down 17 pounds 5 weeks out. I'm wondering if I have ruined my pouch already, is it already stretched? I don't know.
AJP1243 46 Posted January 16, 2015 When you eat and drink together it can stretch out your pouch. It can also push the food down to fast and cause dumping and also cause the nutrients to go away. These are some not all of the reasons we can't eat and drink at the same time. This may be one of the reasons you are losing slower. May not be but it could be. BearerOfLight 9 Posted January 16, 2015 Thank you for the insight AJP, I will discontinue eating and drinking together immediately. It has never caused dumping for me, but the other things could be possible.
AJP1243 46 Posted January 16, 2015 I too was drinking and eating cause I felt i could not do one without the other. I only just found out on the 8th from my DR. The reasons why it was bad. Had surgery on the 15th of dec. Your welcome!
fat2fitva 5 Posted January 17, 2015 @@annebqui I eat half of an Atkins bar at a time. They can give me a bit of an upset stomach but are great when I really want a sweet treat and they have protien in them.
naan 14 Posted January 17, 2015 I had my surgery on Dec.19, and I am struggling with the Water and Protein Shakes. I started feeling hungry and always craving something sweet. I am good at taking my morning Vitamins, but tend to forget them at lunch and dinner I think I lack the time mangment. I don't know what to do? @ 4 weeks now when do I start having veggies? And what kind?
annebqui 21 Posted January 17, 2015 naan - If you have a smart phone, there are apps that help you put your pills in and an alarm will go off when it is time to take them. I use Pill Reminder, but I'm sure there are others. My doc & nutritionist told me that I could start having veggies after 3 weeks, but to introduce them slowly and stay away from the really fibrous things such as the stalk of broccoli and some lettuces. Ask you doc if you can start on them. My doc and nutritionist gave me a whole booklet they prepared of all of the food stages and what I could eat.
Mommabird 367 Posted January 17, 2015 naan, Please check with your nutritionist. While annebqui gets veggies at three weeks, I don't get them until six weeks! Each doctor has their own way.
Sexy Granni 34 Posted January 19, 2015 Eating anything hard is a task. I tried stew chicken and threw all night. I can stick with shakes, smoothies, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna &chicken salad. My husband jokes that I eat like bird. It sometimes frustrating to have to eat so slow. But I know I can safely tolerate ONLY 2 .oz of solid tilipia.any suggestions I'm like 7 weeks out. coastalchick 61 Posted January 20, 2015 I am almost 5 weeks out from a dec. 18th surgery date, and down 30 lbs since my surgery day, 40 including start of nutritional program. I have only dumped once (on a Protein bar), and it was wicked horrible. I am doing pretty good most days, still have cravings but holding strong. Dining out, I just keep it clean with baked or grilled chicken and veggie dish. Great to hear everyone else is doing so well :-)
leanora27801 315 Posted January 20, 2015 Hi, I'm five weeks today! My surgery was Dec 15th and I'm down 31lbs. I'm doing good food wise, I'm still struggling with get all the Water down. I'm going through a dumping right now, and I will never try honey nut Cheerios again. They don't have a lot of sugar and I had skim milk, but now I'm nauseated, having heat flashes, and running to the restroom. I have learned my lesson! berkeleycurves 22 Posted January 21, 2015 Had surgery on 12/16, only have lost 20 since the surgery. I'm really frustrated since I haven't lost anything in a few weeks despite barely eating. I'm trying to move around and walk but I'm so tired/low energy that I can barely finish a day at work let alone work out. I'm feeling really depressed, I feel like this was a mistake. I'm only 22 and I feel like I've ruined my life. I know that being this upset at not losing for three weeks seems stupid, but I've been miserable and barely eating and I'm not seeing any results. I have been crying for the last two days feeling like I'm never going to get to where I need to be. I would appreciate any advice/suggestions.
