Optifast before my surgery was the worst two weeks of my entire life.

On the other hand I did lose 15 pounds. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Thanks Jachut....running is something that someday I would love to do. Is that a good way to get started is by running in short intervals?

Cool Running :: running run training marathon runners jogging jogger joggers runner run fitness exercise diet weight loss nut... has a couch to 5K program for new runners. It starts off fairly easy and has you running 3 miles in about 9 weeks.

Personally...I think joggin for 30 minutes at 270+ pounds is a bad idea. Brisk walking, yes, jogging...well, for me, I'd injure my knees, back and hips and I weigh 260 right now. Low impact is the way to go when 100 pounds overweight.

As far as faster weight loss...Medifast works WONDERS! It's 5 suppliments and one Lean & Green meal every day. I lost over 20lbs the first month I did it (almost two years ago). It's expensive though, so you'd probably get the same results from the unjury or high Protein shakes. Hang in there...you have time...Oh, and as previously stated drink LOTS of water!!!!

Thanks musicalmomma! I agree, I don't think running is the right term for me.....I would like to jog eventually and I printed the article, it seems doable. As hard to believe as this sounds, I am in somewhat decent physical shape. I work a lot with my horses and it takes quite a bit to get me winded, I guess that is one thing going for me. I like to walk but don't feel like it is doing anything for me which is why I need to step it up a notch.

LeeAnn, any idea on how many calories you take in? If you eat 1200 calories and burn up enough exercising each week you should lose about 2 lbs per week. That is if you should be eating 1600 to maintain.

I average between 1200 and 1500 per week. I think I know where some of my issue is.....I have had a terrible cold for the last few weeks and have been sucking on a lot of cough drops...have you ever looked at the sugar in those things?! I about died.....I don't know if this is the only problem, but it definitely goes to show that you have to count everything you put into your mouth....

Wow, I've just read all the posts in this thread and I was going to offer my 2 cents on how to drop quickly, but they are all covered. We are all weight loss experts!

Okay, I'm going to add some thoughts: ;)

I know what you mean about Atkins backfiring. I always joked that I was eating so much fat that putting a carb with it would be like putting a match to TNT. I'd explode!

I'd go with the varying your daily calories and upping your activity. Keep your heart rate low to moderate and going at it for 30-60 minutes is the best fat burner. High intensity burns Protein, then carb, than fat. (I just learned that from my trainer!)

Most sources say don't drop below 1100 calories a day for the unbanded. Especially if you are working out.

You'll do it. You've got 5 weeks!

Another thing that my nutritionist told me was that you need to keep your metabolism 'fueled' by eating at least 3 times a day at regular intervals. One of my pre-surgery issues was only eating when I was hungry--about once a day. Not good for weight loss efforts.

I'm sure you will be able to do whatever is necessary to qualify for your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
