Post op diet struggles

Recommended Posts

Screwed up my post op diet and went through my stages and found I could eat actual food. Not making unhealthy choices or eating too much. Chewing til mush. But. I should be having purées. Should I go back to them? I am more concerned about my belly than my weight loss in that regard I guess.

You should follow the instructions your surgeon and/or nutritionist gave you. Period. Why would you go through surgery and then do anything else?

You should stick with whatever stage your in per dr or nuts instructions. Just because you "can" doesn't mean you should. Allowing your tummy to properly heal is important. I find that although I'm in my 6th week I sometime revert back to purée because it is more comfortable for the tummy. Although it sounds like you had no issues. I would certainly hate to damage what you have just gone through getting reworked. Best of luck.

I'm confused did you skip a step in accident ? I had to write mine on a calendar to keep track of the steps and days!

You had surgery in December and you went through all your stages? It's only the 15tth so even if you had surgery on the 1rst that's only 2 weeks. Did the doctor explain what stages they wanted you to follow and for how long or did you just start eating what your wanted?

If you just ate what you wanted expecting the sleeve to stop you and it didn't then I think you need to come up with a new plan before you stretch your stomach out. Review your plan with your doctor and see where you can make adjustments.

I'm one of the rare people whose plan put me on purees the day I got home from the hospital and was on soft solids a week post op. Having said that, this was my plan and I tried my best to follow it. I'm not saying I was a perfect angel. Purees made me very sad. But I did my best to follow the plan given to me. Do your best to follow the instructions given to you. Don't beat yourself up. Just move onward and take every day one day at a time.

I accidentally skipped ahead and I called my nut and she said if I felt okay then it was fine but I went back to the plan. In your case I would say go back to liquids or puree. I just want my stomach to heal. I'm sure you do too, good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
