Anyone with mirena and sleeve? Warning, woman topic LOL

Recommended Posts

I am concerned and maybe a bit confused. I have the mirena since April. I haven't had a "visible" cycle in probably 4 or 5 months and now just one week after surgery it's seeming to make up for lost time. Coincidence or is this actually affected by the surgery???

I am 4 day post opt. Had a cycle that ended a week before surgery and just today started again. I was told it was because of all the blood thinners I was given during my hospital stay. But not sure, I was confused also

I've had Mirena over two years and it stopped my heavy periods completely. I have PCOS so my periods were irregular but when I had them they lasted much longer than normal.

When I started my pre-op diet I lost 14 pounds and had a 2 day period. Whoa! I forgot that's what happens to other women.

Now I'm 7 weeks post op now and while I haven't had any blood, I'm most definitely ovulating WITH Mirena in place. I'm thinking this is great since my hormones are finally regulating. I plan on having Mirena replaced when it expires. I love not worrying about pads and tampons.

As a side note - You may want to get the placement checked (or check for your strings yourself). I've heard of women losing weight and the IUD shifting out of place. Never hurts to get your doctor's opinion!

I have had Mirena for 3 years and have not had a period in at least 2 years. Now I have had 2 mini periods since surgery (7 weEkes ago). I am scheduling an apt to see what is going on.

I have the Mirena. I started having periods during my pre-op and right after. It stopped almost 1 1/2 months out and seems to be normal again. Meaning no period.

Thanks guys!!!!! I was a little freaked out. I didn't think about blood thinners or the weight loss being factors. Duh lol :)

I was on Depo for 15 years without a period. In 2009 when I was hospitalized for 11 days and had surgery to have a lung drained from pneumonia, I had a period while in the hospital.

My doctors decided to get off the Depo to see if it would help with the weight loss. I was sleeved in June, and had the Merena in October, and No longer had Depo since November end.

No period at all since the one in 2009. So, no periods for 16 years except 1, and doing well with Merena.

It seems that many women have a period around the WLS date and after. So I think it's quite normal. Even if mine return, I'll take it in stride!!!!

I'll start by saying I'm a year post-op tomorrow and 115 lbs down. I have had my Mirena for 5 years, in fact it is due to be replaced. Before I had my surgery, my female nurse practitioner and my nutritionist both said that my IUD could slow down my weight loss. I actually had full intentions of having it removed, made appointments that were canceled by my doctor and just never got around to it. Happily, it did not interfere with my weight loss. I also had the same type of breakthrough bleeding post surgery, started the day of and had it off and on that first few weeks. Interestingly, like clockwork, every six weeks or so I'd start to spot and everytime that happened, my weight loss would stall out for a week or two and I'd spot the entire time. Every single time. This went on for 8 months. I think my body was possibly shedding estrogen during those times but I'm not sure. It was such a pattern I could set a clock by it. When I'd start to spot I would just know that my weight loss was going to stall out for a while.

Wow glad I am not alone! My Mirena has been in place for 6 years and scheduled to remove it in a few weeks. I haven't had a menstrual cycle in over 5 years and then got one 2 weeks after surgery.

I am really debating about having another IUD placed (non hormonal) because I have really loved not dealing with my period for all of these years. My husband had a vasectomy a few years ago so we don't have to worry about birth control. I could go another 5-6 years without a period easily and not miss it one iota!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
