Hello from a new member in The UK

Recommended Posts

Hi from a new member!

I am at my heaviest ever (about 280lbs) and have suffered with clinical depression, for years.

I am on and off anti-depressants, which make me put on weight, so I go on them, get mentally better, but am left with more weight, so end up depressed again. And I have lost weight over the years, only to put back more!

I would love to have a band fitted, and I know this would help my self esteem and my health (swollen ankles, breathlessnes, no energy)

I would like opinions from anyone please.

Do I seek this operation, or should I try to conquer my depression(after 20years, I am not doing a good job)

Thankyou for any help!

This was soooo me pre-op! I was on and off anti-depressants. I had no energy and no will to find any. I was suffering with swollen ankles, acid, I was in pain everyday of my life cause my legs would not support my weight. I am left with a ver manageable and painless damage in my legs.

In response to your question, it really is down to you. Nobody can make such a major decision on your account. I now for me it was life changing, but it is no easy road! Please read about it, see the threads on this forum before you make up your mind, then if you are still thinking about it then go for it! That's what I did and I haven't looked back. But once again it has the be the right decision for you.

Welcome to the LPB!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
