Started my Kaiser class again today..YAY!

Recommended Posts

So today I re-started my Kaiser Options classes today. Last time I went thought the class I completed 4 of the 6 and had to stop due to my divorce finalizing and losing my insurance. I was a little bummed to have to be starting over but I had to be honest with myself...I was going through a nasty divorce, going crazy with nursing school, trying to work out the whole new single parent thing and dealing with looking for a place to live. WLS was something that should have not even been a thought in my mind.

Flash forward a year later my divorce is over and while my ex is still an idiot I have learned to block him out, I am done with nursing school, the NCLEX and found a great job, I have finally gotten the hang of this single parent thing and while it still makes me want to run for the hill some days I am better. I also have finally put my mind to stopping smoking and am now 2 months smoke and patch free (YAY me! lol).

So anyways back to the classes. I love the group of people I am with this go round and the teacher is very straight forward and does not sugar coat. I need that. I started back on my fitness pal and completed the day today "okay" I was spot on calorie wise but admit I could have made better choices...oh well baby steps. Side note ***if anyone want to "friend" me, my user name is Dualstarr. Would love to check out other people logs and have mine viewable to others (kinda keeps me honest).

I am also going to start a youtube channel to track my journey.

@@Dualstarr kaiser has 12 weeks of classes. At least in riverside (ca) they do. Once the classes were over I had to wait for my referral to a contracted outside surgeon. I did start to worry between the referral and actual appt with the surgeon. And I will be honest I gained a few pounds between the end of class and my appt. Which they tell you not to, but luckily I got back on track and lost the few pounds I gained before my consultation. Once you get the consult it's pretty much a done deal. My consult was dec 9th and they offered me a surgery date jan 14th! But I picked the 28th of January instead.

My advice to you is to get your Vitamins and so on now and into a regular schedule of taking them. That way your labs and all that will be good to go. You will do great!

What Vitamins do we have to take? I actually have a Dr's appointment so I can pick them up at the pharmacy today!

I bought the Gummy mutli-vitamins in Costco/Sams club. Vitafusion is the brand. I bought the Multivitamin, calcuim and Vitamin c. They are all gummies. Even my sons started taking them lol. During the classes they did our labs and I found out I was Vitamin D deficient so I started taking a supplement for that to, but since surgery I found a liquid Vitamin D to take.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
