My name is Jaysen and I'm at literally the very beginning of this journey. I'm not the best at punctuating and have many run on sentences so Please be kind lol... I do try my best though ????

My first meeting with a surgeon is not until February 6th.. It kinda sucks being so far out but hey it gives me more time to actually read the directions so to speak. I'm really the type that skips all the important stuff anyway, so I guess it's the universes way of slowing me down in that regard...

I've got a wonderful friend who recently went through RNY and she looks amazing, a question I asked her in regard to my own process was, do I have to have 2yrs proof of my BMI being 40 or over the whole time? She was pretty certain that is the case.. So now I'm very concerned because I've not had insurance for the last 4.5 years and no doctor visits recording my weight ???? I'm 5'11 and 329lbs so I think that comes out to a 44.9 BMI.. So with that being said will they look at my severely high BMI and be like whoa dude we need to fix this , or be like well we need you to be fat for 2 consecutive years till we help ya? I know every insurance is different. My new card with id will not be here for another week or so, and I can't get answers until then ???????? I just don't want to be this way for another two years.... Anyone have BCBS in North Carolina? My plan is called Blue Local Silver 3000 The names for some of these plans are so odd lol.

By the way everyone, Thanks so much for all of your shared journeys, it's really encouraging to see so many success stories and so many kind words given from complete strangers. Peace and love Jaysen of Charlotte North Carolina ✌️✌️✌️

Contact your insurance company and ask them to email/mail you the specific requirements for bariactric surgery. They have written guidelines. I was able to find mine online but this may not be the case for all insurances.

Thanks ???? I was thinking that was the most obvious answer. I just wish my new ID cards would hurry up and get here so I can give that info to coordinater. Or whatever they are called lol...

I know there were some revisions made with BCBS of North Carolina earlier this year so I'm not sure how current this info on the Google search was!! Paperwork should be here next week sometime!!!

The prerequisites for surgery will vary from one insurance provider to the next. In my case I had to undergo 6 months of medically monitored weight loss and exercise program to qualify and it seemed like the insurance company fought me every step along the way.

I sure hope they don't fight me as well ... Thanks for input...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
