Aribay1 198 Posted December 13, 2014 I don't think I'm going to drink ever again or at all but if I was to even think about a sip I'm just curious. When did you start drinking again?
Babbs 14,681 Posted December 13, 2014 My surgeon advised 1 year out from surgery. I'm almost 4 months out, but I may try a sip of champagne on New Years Eve
Kindle 8,667 Posted December 13, 2014 (edited) My surgeon advised 1 year out from surgery. I'm almost 4 months out, but I may try a sip of champagne on New Years Eve You might want to pour it over ice and let it sit awhile. With champagne, it's not the alcohol so much as the bubbles. I discovered the unpleasantness of carbonation after a swallow of Mikes Hard Lemonade this summer. ????. @@Aribay1 I had wine about 4 months out, started having hard liquor cocktails around 6-7 months. Alcohol doesn't affect me any differently, but I discovered I get gastritis if I drink alcohol more than 2 days in a row (like when I was on vacation). Had to take Prilosec for 10 days till my tummy felt better. Now I only have a drink 2-3 times a month Edited December 13, 2014 by Kindle
pasquini 369 Posted December 14, 2014 Be aware with alcohol after surgery it will hit you like a ton of bricks! I'm talking one drink and you will feel it take it slow. it burns off really fast but it hits fast also.
Aribay1 198 Posted December 14, 2014 That's the point! Haha but I just want to make sure my tummy can handle it right
Kindle 8,667 Posted December 14, 2014 Be aware with alcohol after surgery it will hit you like a ton of bricks! I'm talking one drink and you will feel it take it slow. it burns off really fast but it hits fast also. Actually, I didn't find that at all. I could out drink a football team preop and I was looking forward to being a lightweight. Unfortunately I don't feel it hit any stronger or faster than before. Granted, I'm not drinking mass quantities in one sitting anymore, but the 3-4 drinks I've had on a few occasions barely give me a buzz. And definitely not worth the gastric upset it gives me. beachplum 133 Posted December 15, 2014 I had a few mixed vodka drinks at dinner Saturday night, and I felt it burn my poor stomach. I don't think I will be anxious to do that again. I am 7 months out.
par1959 470 Posted December 15, 2014 I am 6 months out and can handle scotch on the rocks. The hang overs are much worse after surgery. I do not get tipsy any faster than before and can drink a lot. But keep in mind the hangover price to be paid. I recommend not drinking until you have lost all the weight you want. I kind of slipped. Once by accident I tasted a bit of bubbly. Not a good idea. Just a micro sip and my sleeve told me to stop.
Aribay1 198 Posted December 16, 2014 I guess I don't want to drink yet but I do when June comes around for my birthday! I know it's all sugar and empty carbs but I miss black out drunken nights with my girls. Haha I'm still young!
easymack63 18 Posted December 17, 2014 I'm sure this will be an unpopular response and full of bad advice, but I drink. Before surgery I could drink a LOT. Now, just past 2 months out, I have had drinks twice. Always just straight hard liquor without any sort of carbonated or sugary chaser/mixer, and I probably have half as much as I did before surgery in order to feel exactly as drunk, but I have done it. I always feel the first shot burn all the way down my throat and into my tummy, but I haven't noticed any other effects. Also, weirdly, I usually lose weight the day after. This I think is because the temporary increase in calories convinces my body its not starving and to let go of some fat. I don't think what I'm doing is probably a good idea, but I'm answering honestly. I'm young too and its a big part of how I socialize.
purplelite 5 Posted December 17, 2014 You can drink again. My doc's office recommends 4 -5 months and not overdoing it and also protecting the stomach the day you will plan on drinking. I have not tried it yet but do plan on a glass of wine on Christmas.
vincereautmori 323 Posted December 18, 2014 I've had wine, since about three months out, about the same effect as before surgery, haven't tried beer or hard liquor yet. I would just caution to keep in mind, its empty calories and those drinks add up.
Pac-woman 325 Posted December 18, 2014 I was wondering the same thing. I am having surgery in 3 and half weeks and I was thinking today....wow....no more wine coolers But given the right time, I may be able to sneak a sip or two once I recoup and get it together.
