Has anyone here had Gastric Bypass soon after another surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am actually having my gastric bypass the surgery this coming Tuesday, on December 16. I'm very excited for it, but a little nervous because four weeks ago I had a complete abdominal hysterectomy with an 8 inch vertical incision. I am starting to feel pretty good, and I am getting some of my energy and mobility back. I was not expecting to have to have a hysterectomy, and was actually scheduled to have the bariatric surgery on December 1 before they found out I had to have emergency hysterectomy. My gynecologist and my bariatric surgeon both seem to think that I will be fine to continue with the bariatric surgery on December 16, four weeks and five days after my last surgery. I guess I'm a little concerned that my recovery time from gastric bypass might be a little longer than expected because I'm still recovering from his other surgery. I was planning to go back to work after three weeks, and work at an office job full-time. Has anyone else had any experience with having two surgeries so close together? thank you!

I had bunion surgery 3 weeks before my sleeve surgery. Even was still wearing a boot after surgery. My surgeon didn't seem concerned with it at all. You may need a little extra time, but not too much :)

@Yes_I_Can!

no experience with having WLS after hysterectomy

or any other surgery

it "might" be "a little" harder to recuperate

but..................if both docs say no prob

i would listen to them

I/we always say to listen to your doc

he's the one in the know :)

hopefully boss will understand that you might need more time to recup

if you can have more time off

i would wait to go back to work when you are FULLY recuperated :)

quick, smooth recovery :)

good luck :)

kathy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
