Help...

4 days out from surgery with no weight loss since before it.

Still very gassy, but it is finally passing. Drinking the 2 4oz shakes a day and flavored water, so I'm getting the liquids in. Started going out for longer periods yesterday for walking and got very dizzy several times. I'm taking my Vitamins, ,, not sure what to do next? Any ideas or similar experiences? Help...

Take it EASY! Walking is good to help pass the gas, make sure you have someone with you If your getting dizzy. Just keep working on those lovely fluids! You and Water are best friends now. : )-

Drink drink drink. Don't over do it on the walking so short trip to get more Water when you finish one cup at a time is enough. At 4 days I don't think anyone is clear to take Vitamins but everyone has different doctors so.... But for sure be patient with the process & you have to give your body time to heal. Going out isn't bad but for not you do need to rest & drink. At week 2 try doing more walking around like at malls & such. You don't want to pass out or forget to drink. It's crazy & sounds like it's overwhelming but at this point you can only handle so many ounces in your stomach but & ppl are all gonna say drink drink drink. Your muscles need hydration so if you aren't using it at least 6 times a day you aren't drinking enough. My doc told me that most people get weak & dizzy and end up back in ER due dehydration. And I felt it coming so I had to step it up + drink more. When or if they did end up in hospital they got put back on iv & sent home.

Weight loss is slow the week after surgery because not only is your body swollen from the inflammation reaction associated with the process of hacking your stomach out, but you were also flooded with fluids during surgery and after. I didn't lose much weight the first week after the sleeve, and after both of my plastics surgery I gained 8-10 pounds and did not get back to where I was before surgery for 5-7 days afterward. As for walking....do loops in an area where you can control the distance. I started out walking around our tennis courts because I knew if I got sick or it started to hurt, I could just cut across the middle and go right back inside. It took me a few days to be confident that I wasn't going to keel over and die mid-walk before I went on any longer walks where I couldn't cheat and stop fairly quickly.

Opposite of me, I love plain old Water. I'll do flavor but I can't do it easily as the regular. When I first had surgery my differ was temperatures. Water had to be room temperature or hot. Nothing sweet or cold until maybe 2 weeks after. Protein Shakes had to be room temperature and all... Sometimes you won't know what you can do until you try though. I just found out I can't do potatoes anymore. Can't tolerate them at all & I was doing potato Soup and mashed potatoes at puree stage. Your body changes, just be patient in learning it's new feelings & making better decisions for the long term. Walking right now should only be to relieve gas from my experience. You have time to exercise after healing. Like I said all surgeons say different, but I agree with mine on that one... After week 3 that's when you'll really be able to kick it in & try pushing more on the distance then exercises.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
