Hello. My name is alyssa.i am 23 years old, turning 24 next week. I am new to this app. I recently had my gastric sleeve procedure done on December 3rd 2014, so I am a little over a week out. I haven't always struggled with my weight. things seemed to go downhill right after high school. In 2009, my senior year in high school, I weighed 150 pounds. Even then I never felt good about myself. I've always had a problem with this. my heaviest weight was 265 pounds. This is the weight I started my bariatric surgery program at back in April. I work in a bariatric department and what motivated me to decide this life change were the patients. I love being able to move through their journey with them and see all the amazing changes they go through. at my 1 week follow up I weighed in at 231 pounds. I have lost this weight so far by doing a 3 week preop diet and being out of surgery for a week. I know this is just the beginning and can't wait to see the changes ahead.

That is awesome that the bariatric practice that you work in will have someone who understands what this experience is all about. My original nutritionist was a PYT (pretty young thing) who looked like she weighed 98 pounds soaking wet. I am all for people on our teams being healthy, but I just felt like she did not really understand the angst involved in this process.

I do hope that your recovery continues to go well. Welcome to the forum.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
