Just had surgery 12/10.

I can't believe how good I feel. I was up and walking the evening after surgery and only took two doses of the heavy pain killers. I was released from the hospital yesterday and but for a bit of grogginess... I'm doing great now at home. I've been doing my walking, drinking my Water and Protein Drinks. Tonight I liquefied some Soup and had a few sips of that. But I cannot believe how good this is going so far. It's hard not to think the other shoe will drop... But has anyone else had an easy go of surgery and post op?

I am 4 weeks out and I had the same experience. I even told my Surgeon, I don't believe he did anything other than put 5 band aids on my stomach. So now, although I don't feel hungry or thirsty, I eat no more than half a cup of anything at a time. If I go over, I feel as though I have morning sickness. But honestly, the surgery was a non event.

I also felt this way for a little while in the beginning, the only stumbling blocks that I encountered was a sudden aversion to my beverages being cold. I was an ice person prior to surgery and when I arrived home I had to microwave even my G2 to get it down. I have had a couple more hurdles to jump with introducing foods in the puréed stage, but taking it one day at a time is only way to go. At my post op appointment the surgeon asked me if I was still doing as well as I did in the hospital and was the surgery too hard on me, I said it was nothing compared to child birth!!!

I think it's all mindset, if you go into it thinking this is a life long change you will have less stumbling blocks then some people.

I am 3 months out and I got right into walking, also for awhile certain Vitamin Water zeros didn't appeal to me, and very cold liquid was also not that delightful. But other then a few issues with dry foods feeling stuck I have felt the way you describe.

It really is amazing how you feel post op & yes childbirth/s-section was way worse to recover from!

Keep riding that euphoric feeling to your goal!!

I also had surgery 12/10/14 Gastric sleeve and Hiatal hernia. I basically slept for hours. The nurse was still giving my pain meds every 4hrs though. When I finally woke up @ 2am. I walked 10x's. Then went pack to sleep. No gas PX at all thank goodness! I stayed in the hospital less than 24hr. I woke up the next morning ready to go home.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Today is day three of recover and I'm still feeling pretty good. I'm keeping my walking up and fluids. But now I guess I'm on the gas phase. I didn't ask the doctor about something over the counter, but will do so Monday. What are you all taking for relief?

Gas X is a life saver! I use the strips and pills alternately between both. :)

We'll I also bought Gas stripes. Waste of money! Those things are expensive.

I also had surgery on the 10th. When you first posted this on the 12th, I decided not to answer because I didn't want to be a "Debbie Downer" as I was NOT doing as well as you were. But it is amazing what a difference a couple of days can make! I am still taking pain killers (I had a LOT of work that had to be done to make my RNY possible once the surgeon got in there) but I have taken only half of what is allowed. I'm getting up and down by myself, walking, getting all my fluids in (my doc requires 80 ounces a day) fetching my own drinks, etc. The only thing I'm not doing yet is sleeping in my bed. I make it 2-3 hours before I have to move to the recliner. I've quite impressed myself! :-) I think that all of us that have chosen to take back our health by having WLS are totally AMAZING!!!

I felt the same way. Did not feel like I had anything done . Lol. But, I spoke to soon. The gas they use to blow your stomach up really got me. It's started a week after surgery. I had my dr. Appointment yesterday and the dr. Said it can get in your tissue. It was very painful Thursday thru the weekend. Getting better now. 12 days post - op

You know, it is funny! I had surgery in November and I had the same easy experience...but I had NO gas trouble at all until about the second week. It manifested itself after I ate...and then I was throwing up the pain was so bad. Then....I was done! :-)

It is so good that we can share all these experiences...

Congrats to all. Now I just have to increase my calories so I can start losing again!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
