Counting Down to surgery and need help and support.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm 44 days out from surgery, I was approved for surgery over the summer, but life got in the way of me having surgery in the early fall. While I feel comfortable with the doctor, I don't feel as though I'm getting any help in the support group like I expected, there's no help with meal planning and recipes, and stuff like navigating the Protein Shakes, and other supplements. The nurse practitioner keeps saying go to pinterest and find recipes, but to me (a computer geek) I find the lack of information there frustrating. I really need recipe books and such as that. I found one but it has too many out of the ordinary ingredients not easily found at the local groceries. Does anyone have books and recipes to recommend?

Also, how does one navigate cooking for people with different nutritional needs, I'm obviously transitioning to a higher Protein diet over the next 2-3 weeks, my husband will eat mostly whatever I make him, but we have a 23 yr old cousin/roommate that needs a high calorie diet because he can't keep weight on (all his labs are good btw). As many of us on the WL journey are or have disabling conditions, while I can walk, standing has been an issue all my life, (I have cerebral palsy) so I can't be in the kitchen chopping up meat and veggies for long periods is a painful and frustrating task. I prefer simple fare with minimum ingredients and fuss. Can anyone point me where I should go, and assist and support me in the coming weeks? TIA

Tricia

There are two blogs I can recommend, http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ and http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.co.uk/ . I recently heard about a book of bariatric recipes, and I'm waiting for my copy to come in. It's called Recipes for Life After Weight-Loss Surgery: Delicious Dishes for Nourishing the New You. There is a bariatic surgery for dummies book that has recipes, as well. I hope that helps.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
