I had my gastric bypass surgery on July 22nd. I decided to have the surgery due to multiple medical reasons and of course wanting to loose the weight. I got pregnant when I was 18 and have been overweight since. I am now 33 and have 2 wonderful kids. I am married to the most wonderful man in the world and he is the most awesome step father to my kids. post-227864-14184038301424_thumb.jpg post-227864-1418403841223_thumb.jpgThey all encouraged me and supported me throughout this process. At 5 months out from surgery I have gone from 280 lbs at my heaviest to 186.2 as of this morning!! I feel like a new person. Just like most everyone I have had some ups and downs but I would make the same decision to have this done if I had to do it all over again. I am so excited to continue on this new journey in my life!!

Thanks!! Most of my downs are problems with food. I have problems eating slow enough. Also my tolerance changes all the time. Something I could eat last week makes me sick this week. I stressed too. You just have to relax. Everything will work out. Good luck!!!

My stress is now from. Reading stories re peoples hair falling out and peoples teeth falling out.... I'm. Starting to wonder if I should not follow through :(

Best decision I ever made to have the surgery. Best I have ever felt!

I have not had any problems with my teeth. My hair has thinned but I take a Biotin Vitamin every day to help with that. All and all for me the ups and benefits far outweigh the downs. Going through with it was the best decision I ever made. I feel wonderful!!

@@mwilson - you look GREAT! I am so happy for you. I have my gastric bypass at 2:45 pm today and I only hope to have that I'll have the same success. My goal weight is for a 189 lb wgt loss. Good luck with the rest of your journey.

How long ago was your surgery????

Did you have the bypass or sleeve and do you have the symptoms I mentioned????

My surgery was 10/7. I have not heard of teeth falling out. I have heard of Hair loss between 3-6 months. But all is good after that. Everything grows back. I am going on 3 months. I will let you know. Bypass for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
