I fell down the steps 10 days post-op!

Recommended Posts

Hello! First of all I'd like to say that even though this is my first post, I've received a lot of advice and encouragement from many of you here so thank you! I had my laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery on December 2nd, 2014 and I'm happy to say I've had an amazing recovery! I started my journey at 5'6 weighing 265lbs at my heaviest, 256lbs on surgery date and 10 days post op am now at 240lbs ????????I stopped taking my pain meds about 4 days after surgery, I can sleep in whatever position I want, I've been trying pureed foods and have never felt nausea, haven't vomited or felt uncomfortably full. I'm feeling great....but

Just a couple of hours ago I fell down the steps...only 5 steps, but I hurt my bum and my elbow, and of course I'm concerned about my insides, I just had major surgery a few days ago. I feel ok, my incisions look fine and everything seems normal but I'm still a little nervous. Will be calling my surgeons office tomorrow to see what she says. Did anyone ever go through something like this? Should I be more worried?

Help. ????

I fell flat on my side about a week out from surgery. I was concerned too, my nurse told me as long as it isn't super sore or leaking then I'm okay. I haven't had any problems since, and I've fallen down some stairs a few weeks ago. I'm 9 week post op.

No. Your insides have healed quite a bit by now. Unless you fell hard right onnm your stomach and your having pain there or bleeding, don't worry.

But be more careful. You don't want to derail yourself with a broken leg!

Thanks! That makes me feel better. And yes I'll be more careful ????

Yesterday I fell for the first time since knee replacement surgery in March last year. I am 7 weeks post op and I feel really sore. Still do. I am concerned too. I have a nasty ache on my left side in my back. Will call Doc today. I need my right knee replaced as soon as possible. I am dragging my leg around and now my right hip hurts too. It was the reason I fell. I stumbled and couldn't stop my fall. Lay on the floor, for a bit reviewing parts before I stood up. Looked a bit like a giraffe getting up. Butt first. I will survive!

It was nice to know I am not alone in the stumblebum category. Brings new meaning to the term erectile dysfunction...

Oh no! I heard that hurst for a long time. I hope you are feeling better. It's been a couple of days since my fall and other than a sore bum and bruised elbow I'm feeling great :) thank god nothing serious happened

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
