Question for other women...

Recommended Posts

I am now 6 months post-op (sleeve) and have lost 100 lbs during this time!! I am beyond thrilled and feel amazing!! I was wondering though if any other women noticed any changes in their periods in this timeframe? I am very regular but am noticing that periods are a little shorter and lighter (not a bad thing), I also just turned 40 and am hoping that this is related to the rapid weight loss/exercise and not the beginning of perimenopause! My husband and I have not been able to conceive due to my obesity and I realize that I am now "old", but still hoping there may be a chance. I would love any feedback from those that have been there!

Thank you!

Hi. It is likely due to the weight loss (in a good way); the obesity may have given you longer/heavier periods. But...to rest your mind re: if it's perimenopause, have your OB/GYN check new levels of FSH, LH and estradiol. Make sure you know what day of your cycle it is when the blood is being drawn. Remember, 'Day 1' is the first day of your cycle.]

That has got to be A GOOD THING for me I noticed as my weight increased over the years my period was longer and I thought it was cause I was getting older so thanks for GIVING ME EVEN MORE TO LOOK Forward to once I have my surgery!!!

We store estrogen in our fat. Obese women have heavier periods because of all that estrogen. Your lighter periods are normal.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
