I started this journey in April of 2014 ... and now, after fighting with my insurance company since September, finally getting approved and anticipating a January surgery date ... I received a call last night .... There was a cancelation ... I am booked for December 18th! I couldn't be more pleased, but yikes! I haven't even started holiday shopping. Any advice out there for a last minute last week pre-op?

You are one day after mine, go out and buy you Vitamins and get you holiday to do list done this weekend, wrapping presents while you recoup is a great time passer when you wont feel so hot. Get a food diary and set it up and get excited about your rebirthday.

@@jesshero I thought I was "cutting it close" by getting my date (Dec 17th) exactly 2 weeks before surgery. But one week? Wow, you must be elated! I'm right before you. So excited. I have no advice other than follow your doctor's instructions exactly! Are you doing a pre-op diet?

@@jesshero I was the same way. My head was spinning for at least 24 hours after getting the news. I had a bunch of pre-op appointments I had to organize with my work schedule at that point but I'm all done now! Visit with the doc/nutritionist & picking up my pre-op diet products last Thurs. Had my nutrition class on Monday. Had my final visit with the surgeon and the dietitian today where I picked up my post-surgery Vitamins, and this morning I also had a pre-surgery phone interview with my nurse from the hospital, and now I just have to wait for surgery day. Totally stoked! Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
