Do Anyone get hunger pains or is it stomach acid????....I've been having what seems like hunger pains for about 2 weeks now. It only occurs when I'm finished eating about 1-2 hours later....my surgeon gave me a Rx for acid reflux after surgery so I'm saying to myself I don't have heartburn so decided not to take it. Do I need this to eliminate this feeling??

Yes. My doctor also gave me the script for omeprazole. Take it, you will be much more comfortable.

Girl take your pills! Even if you don't "feel" acid its in there and it could cause all these symptoms PLUS ulcers In your new stomach!

Omeprozole for me too. If I don't take it first thing in the morning, I will regret it later. I definitely get the intended benefit from it.

How much omeprazole are you all on? I feel like my dose is super high.

I was on 40mg omeprazole once/day for 2 months. My surgeon stressed this was mandatory whether I had acid symptoms or not. The PPI helps produce a less acidic environment so your incision can heal better. As for the hunger pains, take some maaloxx when you feel them. If it's acid, it will go away pretty quick. If it doesn't, eat something.

Prilosec is actually better absorbed in the bloodstream if taken on an empty stomach. I took mine first thing in the morning. You may want to try and get it in 1/2 -1 hour or so before lunch. food can interfere with absorption and lead to inadequate treatment, according to the "Drug Information Handbook."

I was taking Protonix before surgery and still do. It is best to take PPI's first thing in the morning; it neutralizes the acid in the tummy.

@@Kindle - When I wasn't having any problems I would take it with my evening meds before bed. The bottle said take with food, but I'm gonna try taking it before. It isn't painful just uncomfortable. At first I thought I was full and ended up skipping dinner. Then I realized it was the acid. Thanks for the tip.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
