I've had a wonderful experience from the get go!

I am a year out, wonderful energy, lost 130lbs, gone from 53% body fat to 19% and become a runner and yogi.... Healthy as anything! No complications.

I am 9 months out, down 115 pounds, and have a BMI of 25. Wasn't an easy journey but soooo worth it.

My mother always told me that, as a rule, people only write (ie: complain) when they have negative stuff to say. They are less inclined to rave about the good than they are to bitch about the bad. (Not saying they don't have a right to bitch and complain - I'm just saying)

You know, not to be rude, I'm just saying it like it is- a lot of the "bad" experiences I read about on here aren't really that bad anyway. I mean, gas pain, Nausea, bloat, incision pain, tiredness, Constipation, not being able to eat (duh), having to stay in the hospital a little longer than expected, etc... It's all par for the course and should be expected. I mean come on, this is surgery! It's not spray tanning!

So unless someone had a major complication such as a twisted bowel or leak or ulcer or something life threatening, I would say their experience was that of any typical surgery and rate it as average.

You gotta go for this. My surgery was all of the first paragraph and I still sooooo glad I did it. I am so grateful I haven't had complications and really sorry for those that have.

It's tough but worth it. 20 lbs down in less than 2 weeks!

I had surgery less than 24 hours ago and feel great. Some slight gas pain, and some drain tube pain, but I am feeling fantastic. At 12 hours after surgery I walked around my floor of the hospital for an hour straight. I've had no nausea but did have some wicked cotton mouth for the first few hours. No regrets. :)

I am 4 months, 70+ pounds down and feel GREAT!!! I work out 5 days a week plus walk 3 times throughout my day at work!!!! After getting through all the phases you can eat fairly normal within reason ( meaning low - sugar fat etc). I went back to work after only 9 days too!!! So far So Good!! Hoping it continues!!! sleeping was not an issue for me either...I'm a stomach sleeper, but I just slept propped up on my pillows till I was able to switch back!!! The only 2 nagging things for me is remembering to drink drink drink... and of course constipation...otherwise It's BEEN GREAT!!!

Jennifer

I just wanted to clarify that I as well as anyone else going through this surgery, had all of the normals things to be expected immediately after surgery, gas, tenderness in abdomen, low energy, etc. This is major surgery and has things to contend with like any other surgery. Please do not think I flew through this like wonder woman, but as far as any Major complications, I have been lucky thus far. Now that being said, I followed all of my Dr.s orders to a T to avoid any undue complications and help in my recovery!!! Wishing all of you preops a to have the same as well!!!

Jennifer

I was sleeved on 11/19 (4 weeks ago) and it was a very positive experience for me. I've had 13 other abdominal surgeries and was anticipating the worst but..... It was the easiest surgery I've ever had!

I only pushed the pain med button 4 times right after surgery. I was walking every hour by three hours out of surgery. I had my IV and pain meds removed the next morning!

12 pounds lost pre-op and 28 since surgery!

Best decision I've ever made!!!!!!

Was totally pain and soreness free in 2 weeks, went back to work on day 11 and went swimming today with no pain at all!

It's such a help to read peoples experiences with the surgery. I know there are pros and cons but I think we all knew going into this that it wasn't going to be a bed of roses. If this procedure was so easy, everyone would be doing it. I can't imagine thinking of this as a regret, this is going to be a major game changer for me and I;m ready for it! I'am writing a blog, my online diary, and I hope to be able to share with others the things we go through, www.findingsassy.com. We can do this!

Surgery 11-4 and had no real issues other than nausea. I had zero pain and was walking post op surgery day. sleeping on my side out of recovery and I'm sure I could have been on my stomach if I didn't have the drain tube. Surgery was Tuesday and was discharged Thursday then back to work Monday. I do get a little tired at times but then I had days preop that I didn't have the same level of energy anyway. At 7 wks I'm down 33lbs. Love the choice to take a path that I did in this journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
