Yoga's harder than it looks!

Never said you couldn't. I just said why I don't do or enjoy yoga. :-)

It was the hippy dippy part. Sounded very judgmental.

My young, ulta-cool daughter is something of a hipster. It's cool, and something to aspire to :) She dragged me to yoga.

I, on the other hand, aspire to be basic! And yet I like yoga! :P

Just saying that categorizing people by the activity they participate in OR an activity by the people it may appeal to is a bit limiting. I know people of all varieties who enjoy yoga. Most are not hippy, dippy, trippy, including most of the instructors I've known. A few classes can be a bit "woo-woo" as we call them, but they are not the majority.

The reality is that everyone categorizes everything. It's how we make sense of things, by compartmentalizing things so they work within our worldview. I don't think being a hippie yogini is a bad thing at all.

Wow. Again I don't know what to say. So I will just channel the hippie yogini in me and let it be.

Any hot yoga fans here? I went hot yoga yesterday for an hour and have had a head ache ever since. I assume it is dehydration. I am pushing Water but can't get the headache to abate. How you the rest of you get enough Fluid in to do Bikram?

"Hippy, Dippy"?? Wow? Really? Uhh, what does being a hippy have to do with yoga? It never ceases to amaze me how un enlightened/judge mental (I.e categorizing) folks choose to be...

Btw, this ex all American athlete has been practicing yoga since her Olympic gold medal winning coach required it of all of her athletes 20+ years ago....builds strength through stillness, balance, flexibility and strengthens the mind. Sometimes we've really got to get out of our own way when it comes to learning and/or trying something new. Life is too short to live it categorizing.

I just think of how many times most of us have been categorized inaccurately because of our weight and think of all people we would want to avoid doing the same.

It is human nature to do so, true, but as you say it gets us in our own way many times.

There are different types of yoga. When I first looked into it, I went to a class that I would totally describe as "hippy, dippy" and really hated it. It was mostly meditation. Really turned me off. But then I found Bikram yoga and discovered that there are many types of yoga. Bikram yoga is not hippy dippy at all!! It's really tough and more of an exercise. I loved it but it's a hour and a half long and just not possible for me to do all the time so I stopped but I still miss it.

So, the person who described yoga as hippy dippy has probably only seen or tried the meditative yoga. I challenge you to try the Bikram yoga (it's the hot yoga)!

I haven't tried it since surgery so not sure how dehydrated I would be but definitely keep drinking the Water in there! It is HOT!!

Actually the person who said it admitted she had never been to a yoga class (said something like "I'd never pay for that". I don't wanna take the time to look back.)

Anyhow yes for sure. But also different teachers present class very differently. I've been to very athletic vinyasa classes and some hippy dippy ones.

I'm not willing to pay for something I personally don't find enjoyable. I wouldn't pay for zumba either. Also something I know I wouldn't enjoy. Simple as that. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
