Water Tea intake etc

Recommended Posts

Since being diagnosed w diabetes 2 I drink about 62-84 oz of Water a day n about 2-4 cups of herbal tea. Will I have trouble drinking after surgery? I gave up coffee years ago n don't drink alcohol cuz gives me hot flashes. Also does everyone get cold cuz I have window open wear tea shirts all year round. Guess losing fluff n lowering blood pressure will change things. Maybe next winter?? Surgery target Feb. Oh so ready!!

@fluffy4nowByes YES you will more than likely have trouble getting in fluids at FIRST...its a struggle but as time goes by it gets easier. I am almost 6 weeks Out now and I can drink pretty normal for the most part..water being the hardest to get through. Everybody is different so only time will tell how you will do but it's very normal to have issues in the beginning.

Drinking is tough for the first couple of weeks. I am just 4 weeks post op and wasn't able to regularly get in 64

Ounces of liquid daily until last week. I still come up short on my fluid goals once in a while , but it only happens every 5 or 6 days now. It is so hard to retrain yourself to constantly be sipping on something. Once you get used to always having something on hand to drink you will get closer and closer to your goals. Good luck!

At the beginning it is hard to get all your fluids, but a few months later, I notice I can drink normal cups of Water just like anyone else. Just cannot mix water and eating. I tried that once out of habit and it was awful..you will throw up.

I could drink Water right after surgery. In my docs office this is the norm. With a new stomach I feel we all cautious at first . Over time you will drink more and more. After a couple of weeks I could chug water to a certain extent. You will also find your diebets will receed fast. Get ready and hold on tight its a crazy ride at times but worth it.

Hot Drinks like herbal tea is one of the easiest things to drink postop. You shouldnt have any trouble enjoying these at all. I drink 2 to 3 cups every day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
