I have my psychological evaluation tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what to expect???!! I've been called crazy in my day...what should I expect?

My psych eval was a 30 minute conversation with the doctor asking me questions about my eating habits, the family dynamic growing up, do I have support at home, why do I want the surgery, did I have an eating disorder when I was young, etc. It was fairly painless. The doc just wants to make sure that you can handle the changes that are coming with bariatric surgery. Good luck. I hope you do well.

I don't know if all of the sessions follow the same pattern, but mine was easy and calm. I did not get the feeling that the psychiatrist was trying to "trip me up." She asked a lot of questions about my life, my relationship to food, my goals and my expectations. Then she sent in a report to the insurance company clearing me for surgery. No problem, even though everyone knows I'm pretty kooky.

relax!! dont get yourself worked up..mine was simple, just getting a feel for your behaviour , if you have had any eating disorders in the past, currently...how your feeling, what your thinking. why you want the surgery etc...if you already see a therapist besides them you will also have to be cleared thru the primary therapist...since they know your history and current state of everything. I had to clear thru her and my regular therapist. in fact I took the bull by the horns and made another app to go see my regular one to tell her what was going on an that I needed her release to get this surgery done. of course she helped alot! best wishes..:) its part of the process...:) she'll explain the emotional head hunger that you'll have to endure and work thru..

Mine was much the same. But I had to fill in 300 multiple choice questions, covering everything from how I felt about drugs, theft, and suicide to how I saw the world and the people around me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
