My lunch bag is a sad place right now

Recommended Posts

I used to LOVE chocolate anything pre-surgery. I have some chocolate icing in my kitchen right now for my hubby's cake. But, I did not open it. I keep Protein Bars handy for Snacks time and frozen yogurt almonds in the freezer for the T.O.M. cravings. But I am amazed that the chocolate monster in me is tamed, for now. But I noticed that almost 4 months out, my sweet tooth finally kicked in.

During my failed attempt @ the Paleo diet this with a litte smidge of Peanut Butter was to die for, one square should do the trick very rich but oh so yummy! Lindts 85% dark chocolate 2 for 5 bucks @ CVS if you have one near you.

I have ZERO control when it comes to chocolate so even a little in my house will mean the whole bag gone in 10 min. I did however, just find a tea selection of chocolate teas, go to the website for The Republic of Tea and try the banana chocolate and the coconut cocoa one as well. And they are low caffeine and I also have the cinnamon vanilla flavor too, caffeine free and they seem to satisfy my sweet tooth but no sugar. I add 1 packet of stevia in the raw and viola a nice warm feeling. Oh, they have a chocolate sampler box too! Yummy non cheat treats!

For lunch at work I have an Atkins frozen meal. I only get the ones with over 20 grams of Protein, they are low carb, high protein and they have a nice selection. They are approx $4 per meal but it cheaper than when I used to buy lunch. I keep them in my office freezer and just pop one in the micro and viola, Swedish meatballs, turkey with string Beans, meat loaf with veggies, crust less chicken pot pie, chicken and broccoli alfredo . I have been doing amazingly well with this method and my dr and nut stated that I don't need to track calories just protein 60 to 100 grams per day and carbs, under 35 until I reach goal weight. So far so good :)

Torani has a Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup (and other flavors) that can be added to any beverage (and I use in cooking) so that can help with cravings at a lower calorie and budget cost! ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
